The first time tasting the Michelin-rated vermicelli dish in Da Nang , two Korean guests commented that the flavor was both strange and familiar but delicious, the most impressive being the rich fish cake.
During a trip to Da Nang a few months ago, Yozzzuum (from Korea) and her husband Jo Bong-dal spent a lot of time exploring local cuisine , from popular dishes to dishes recommended by the Michelin Guide.
Among them, there is a dish that the couple quite likes, finds it to be to the taste of most Koreans and highly praises it as delicious. That is fish cake noodles.
The place that Yozzzuum and his wife visited was a fish noodle shop located on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Hai Chau District.
The restaurant received the Bib Gourmand title (good restaurant, affordable price) voted by Michelin in June 2024.
At the restaurant, two Korean guests ordered a bowl of noodles with lots of fish cakes for 40,000 VND and a special bowl with extra crab cakes and sour soup for 50,000 VND.
These are 2 outstanding dishes on the menu, loved and chosen by many diners to enjoy.
When the food was served, Yozzzuum expressed her impression of the quick and attentive service. She also commented that the portion was generous.
The Korean female tourist excitedly tasted the first spoonful of broth and was surprised by the strange yet familiar flavor and pleasant aroma.
“The broth is clear, mild, and you can clearly taste each flavor. I feel like this dish is a bit like odeng (Korean hot soup with fish cake broth),” Yozzzuum commented.
The young customer also said that the reason why the fish noodle soup here has a more distinctive and rich flavor than Korean odeng is probably due to the way Vietnamese people use and season the spices.
“When I added lemon juice, I found the flavor of the dish even more impressive,” she added.
While enjoying it, Bong-dal also exclaimed "so delicious" and praised the fish cake for its firm meat, rich flavor, and aroma.
“This dish goes well with soju. That’s probably why the restaurant also has small glasses for drinking on the side,” he humorously said.
To have a more enjoyable and complete dining experience, the couple also ordered canned beer, praising it as the best drink they have ever had.
Sharing with VietNamNet reporters, the representative of the fish noodle shop that Yozzzuum and his wife visited said that the shop has been open for more than 40 years.
The highlight of the fish noodle soup here is the broth, which has a mildly sour and sweet taste, prepared according to a secret recipe by boiling crab shells, fish bones and fresh vegetables and fruits (pineapple, cabbage, bamboo shoots, tomatoes...).
In addition, the restaurant's fish cakes are made from fresh fish and not mixed with much flour, and are highly appreciated by diners because they are firm, chewy, fragrant, and rich in flavor.
When eating, diners can add some typical Central spices such as chili, shrimp paste, fish sauce, pickled shallots, green chili and raw vegetables, etc. to increase the freshness or prevent boredom.
Price of each serving of fish noodle soup ranges from 40,000 - 60,000 VND, depending on ingredients.
In addition to fish cake noodles, the restaurant also serves a number of other dishes such as tuna noodles, mackerel noodles, crab soup, fried and steamed fish cakes, meeting the diverse enjoyment needs of diners.
