New trade trends

Speaking at the opening of the forum, emphasizing the key role of export promotion in the new context of global trade, Mr. Vu Ba Phu said that the forum is an important opportunity for the industry and trade sector and the business community to review the current situation, identify challenges, determine new opportunities, and make policy recommendations to serve sustainable export development in the coming years.

According to Mr. Vu Ba Phu, the Export Promotion Forum is an event organized annually by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, creating a multi-party dialogue channel, thereby identifying difficult issues and proposing solutions to support more effective trade promotion.

The theme “Go Global - Conquer the international market” demonstrates Vietnam’s strong determination to support businesses to reach out to the world with new thinking, new models and approaches suitable to the transformation trend of international trade, especially digital transformation and sustainable development.

The global economy is undergoing profound changes: shifting supply chains, increasing trade competition, tightening green standards and the explosion of e-commerce . These factors create both great pressure and open up opportunities for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into high-value markets.

Mr. Vu Ba Phu assessed that Vietnam, with its high economic and trade openness, is facing an important opportunity to increase market share, diversify export markets and participate more deeply in the global value chain.

In recent years, exports have been a bright spot in the economy. The product structure has shifted positively towards processed and manufactured goods. Many private enterprises with systematic investment have brought their products to demanding markets and built Vietnamese brands in the international market.

In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam had a trade surplus of nearly 20 billion USD; total import-export turnover reached about 762 billion USD, an increase of 17.4% over the same period in 2024. The whole year is expected to reach over 950 billion USD, this is the highest turnover ever.

However, the markets of the United States, EU, Japan, the Middle East, Africa, etc. still have a lot of untapped potential. The requirement for businesses is to strongly innovate in risk management, product development, process standardization, origin transparency and actively participate in digital commerce to improve competitiveness.

New orientation for export promotion

This year's forum takes place at a time when the Ministry of Industry and Trade is finalizing the Trade Promotion Plan for the 2026 - 2030 period. Consulting with businesses is an important step to keep policies close to reality.

We will take into account the comments of experts and businesses today to finalize the 5-year trade promotion plan, expected to be issued in early December 2025,said the leader of the Trade Promotion Agency.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is also developing the “Go Global Program for the 2026-2035 period (Go Global)”, supporting businesses to go global in the direction of leading the value chain; expanding the market deeply and sustainably; making the most of new-generation FTAs; green transformation and upgrading export standards; and enhancing digital applications in trade promotion.

At the forum, two discussion sessions will focus on hot topics such as innovating export models, green transformation, upgrading value chains and increasing global competitiveness; optimizing advantages from FTAs, managing trade risks and expanding strategic markets.

The Vietnam Export Promotion Forum 2025 is expected to become an annual meeting place to help businesses grasp market trends, connect with partners and seek new trade opportunities in the context of strong restructuring of the global supply chain.

With the spirit of “transform to lead, break through to succeed” , the event is a place to exchange policies, bridge strategies to elevate Vietnamese brands; affirm Vietnam's role as a reliable trade partner of the world.

The Export Promotion Forum is an annual activity organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Trade Promotion Agency), creating a forum for managers, experts, businesses, and localities to discuss hot issues and propose practical solutions to boost exports.
