On the afternoon of July 29, in Hanoi , the International Cooperative Alliance Asia-Pacific (ICA-AP) in coordination with the ICA-AP Women's Committee and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance organized a conference of the International Cooperative Alliance Asia-Pacific Leadership Board to promote global and regional development of cooperatives.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van - President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance highly appreciated the activities of the ICA-AP Board of Directors in recent times, which has had meaningful initiatives and activities to connect ICA-AP member countries and create forums dedicated to female cooperative leaders in the region to meet, exchange and share good experiences in economic construction and development.

According to Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, this regional leadership meeting is very important as the content that the leaders focus on is to unify and make decisions on issues including reports on the activities of the Committees, personnel participating in the Leadership Board, especially the ICA-AP Strategic Plan for the period 2025-2030.

“In the context that the issue of cooperative development is a matter of concern on the international agenda and 2025 is chosen as the International Year of Cooperatives, I hope and believe that the strategic plan with many new contents will be approved and implemented as soon as possible,” Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van shared.

In addition, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van also emphasized that the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance will always accompany and be a responsible member of ICA-AP, together with member countries, fully and actively participate in ICA-AP's activities in the future to improve the operational efficiency as well as the position of ICA-AP.

“Vietnam Cooperative Alliance will promote experience sharing and mutually beneficial cooperation between cooperatives of countries, contributing to the development of the cooperative movement in the region and globally. In particular, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance pledges to make every effort to successfully organize the Asia-Pacific Women Cooperative Leadership Summit taking place in the next two days," said Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van.

According to the Organizing Committee, the ICA-AP Executive Board meeting is held twice a year to report on the status of member organizations, activities of specialized committees and update on ongoing ICA-AP activities, focusing on implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

At this conference, delegates will discuss issues such as: activity reports of the Women's Committee, Youth Committee; activity reports of ICA-AP, financial reports, reports on membership and membership fees; action plans in the ICA-EU FPA2 Cooperation Project and Membership Needs Assessment, etc.

Founded in 1895, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) represents cooperatives worldwide to promote the development of the cooperative model. Currently, worldwide, the cooperative sector has about 3,000,000 cooperatives and mutual organizations, attracting 1.2 billion members, representing at least 12% of the world's population, with a total turnover of 300 leading cooperatives in the world in 2022 of 2,400 billion USD. Cooperatives create stable, high-quality jobs for more than 280 million people.
