On the morning of September 22, the 16th ASEAN Ministers of Information Meeting (AMRI 16) took place in Da Nang city, co-organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the ASEAN Secretariat.

With the theme "Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN" , representatives of leaders in the information and communication sector of ASEAN countries will exchange, discuss and provide directions and instructions to promote cooperation between ASEAN countries in the fields of: Press, radio and television, internet ( social networks , websites, internet-based communication) and raise awareness about ASEAN.

In his opening speech at the Conference, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that ASEAN's information and communications sector is taking on a new mission, proactively opening up a new space to jointly contribute to building a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community. This is a shift from information to knowledge and understanding. Leading this shift and succeeding in this new mission will be the contribution of ASEAN countries to the world's information and communications sector.
“This ASEAN Information Ministers Meeting will review and discuss the challenges and opportunities of digital media, orientations for media, and orientations for ASEAN media cooperation in the coming years,” said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung.

According to Mr. Ekkaphab Phanthavong - Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, with the ASEAN region emerging from the pandemic, the information and communication sector plays an important and cross-cutting role in promoting the ASEAN Community Vision. The discussions at the 16th ASEAN Ministers on Information Meeting and related forums and conferences on the theme "Communications: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN" will create more momentum for regional cooperation and strategic directions towards social, sustainable and inclusive development.
Leaders of the ASEAN media industry will discuss many hot issues of the media industry in the context of digital transformation and propose directions for ASEAN media cooperation in the coming time.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that the declaration of the 43rd ASEAN Summit has provided orientations for building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, developing a self-reliant, creative, dynamic and people-centered community, capable of seizing opportunities, solving emerging issues and challenges in the future. At the same time, it sets out the task of consolidating identity, enhancing solidarity and unity within ASEAN. In that development process, along with the major trends of the times, cooperation in press and media information plays an important role, aiming to connect and spread values in the ASEAN Community.

According to Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, the world is in a period of great change. Cooperation to promote timely and accurate access to information based on digital capabilities; turning information into knowledge to support businesses, improve people's livelihoods and lives, and minimize the impact of negative information is an urgent need today, at the national, regional and international levels, including ASEAN.

“The ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in charge of Information is an important forum for member countries and other countries to dialogue, exchange and identify priorities and cooperation orientations in the coming time, joining hands to successfully implement the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the priorities of the ASEAN Community,” said Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, expressing her belief that the Ministerial Meeting will share and make valuable recommendations to the ASEAN Summit; agree on specific action programs to continue to affirm and further promote the important role of the information sector in the ASEAN development process; turn information into knowledge for the people, such as the theme "Communication: from information to knowledge for a resilient and adaptive ASEAN".
