In recent years, Vietnam's rural areas have witnessed a wave of urbanization and strong changes in consumer habits. In this context, WinCommerce (WCM) - a member of Masan Group's consumer ecosystem - is emerging as one of the leading forces leading the trend of modernizing the rural retail market.
With rapid expansion, especially in April, WCM reached the milestone of 1,500 Rural WinMart+ stores, completing nearly 80% of the yearly expansion plan, demonstrating its strategic vision and outstanding execution capacity.

Accelerated expansion, average 2 stores per day
At the 2025 General Meeting of Shareholders, Mr. Danny Le - General Director of Masan Group affirmed the goal of accelerating the coverage of the modern retail system in rural areas with the target of "opening an average of 2 new stores per day" and reaching 1,900 WinMart+ Rural stores by the end of the year. This is not only a number that demonstrates the ability to expand scale, but also Masan's commitment to bringing quality goods, modern services and consumer utilities closer to 60% of the Vietnamese population living in rural areas.
According to information from the business, in April, WCM opened 68 new stores, including 46 WinMart+ Rural stores, bringing the total number of stores in the system to 4,035 and the Rural chain to 1,500 stores. With an average opening rate of nearly 50 new WinMart+ Rural stores per month, the goal of reaching 1,900 stores by the end of the year is not only feasible but also within the business's reach.
Rural areas are the new growth engine of Vietnam retail
Rural areas account for about 70% of the country's population, equivalent to more than 60 million people. According to data from the General Statistics Office, the average income per capita of workers here has increased to about 6.7 million VND/month thanks to the industrialization and urbanization process. This has led to increasingly diverse and modern consumer demand, not only stopping at essential goods but also expanding to electronic products, household appliances and utility services.
Rural areas are becoming a new driving force for retailers, including WCM.
While many modern retail chains are struggling in large cities due to high operating costs and fierce competition, rural areas are emerging as a growth "lowland" with great market potential.
According to market research, rural consumers are increasingly concerned with product quality, origin and convenient shopping experiences - things that traditional sales channels have not fully met.
The WinMart+ Rural store model is the strategic solution that WCM offers. The stores are designed to suit the scale of small towns and districts, ensuring a full supply of essential consumer goods at reasonable prices and with clear origins.
Not only has the WCM Rural chain of stores expanded rapidly in number, it has also demonstrated strong growth potential. In April, WinMart+ Rural stores recorded same-store sales (LFL) growth of 15% year-on-year - continuing the 15.6% growth momentum in Q1/2025.
"The consecutive double-digit growth rate of LFL shows that this is not a temporary growth but a sustainable business model. The fact that people return to the store many times and shop with increasing order values reflects their trust in the quality, price and service of WinMart+ Rural," said a representative of WCM.
Masan's consumer - retail - technology ecosystem plays a key role, helping each WinMart+ Rural store not only be a point of sale for goods, but also a center for life services: providing fresh meat from Masan MEATLife, FMCG consumer goods from Masan Consumer, and many other convenient services that are gradually being integrated such as bill payment, financial services or mobile network. From a simple store, WinMart+ Rural is becoming a "Point of Life" touch point for rural people.

With the goal of opening 1,900 new WinMart+ Rural stores in 2025 and having completed nearly 80% of the plan after only 4 months, WinCommerce is contributing to changing the Vietnamese rural retail market. Not only is it a pioneer in the minimart model (small supermarket) in rural areas, WCM also helps more and more Vietnamese people access modern, friendly, close, and effective retail.
