Ly Hoang Nam defeated the world's number 2 pickleball player in China

(Dan Tri) - Ly Hoang Nam defeated world number 2 tennis player, Federico Staksrud, to win the right to enter the final of the Pro men's singles at the PPA Asia Tour Hangzhou Open 2025 in China.

On the morning of December 5, Vietnam's top tennis player, Ly Hoang Nam (third seed), created a big shock when he convincingly won 2-0 (11-7, 12-10) against first seed, Federico Staksrud, in the semi-finals of the Pro men's singles event of the Pickleball PPA Asia Tour Hangzhou Open 2025 (Hangzhou, China).

Staksrud, who is ranked second in the world , is considered the biggest challenge that Hoang Nam has to face at the PPA Asia tournaments. Despite being the third seed, Ly Hoang Nam has never won the men's singles in this tournament system.

In the first set, Hoang Nam unexpectedly took a 3-0 lead. However, Staksrud quickly took the lead back to 4-3. Both players fought with many lightning-fast balls at the net to score each point. The match became tense when both players brought the score to 7-7.

Staksrud's slip at the end of the court cost him the right to serve and from there Hoang Nam brilliantly ended the set with a score of 11-7.

In the second set, the Vietnamese player continued to impress, leading 6-0. Although Staksrud regained his composure, quickly accelerated and equalized the score at 10-10, Hoang Nam still maintained his spirit of steel, winning the last 2 points of the game to end the match with a score of 12-10.

In the end, Hoang Nam won with a score of 2-0. This is not only an impressive personal achievement but also partly proves Ly Hoang Nam's level and bravery in the international arena. He is expected to continue to shine and win the championship in the final match, bringing a noble title to Vietnamese sports .

While Ly Hoang Nam excelled in the Final, his teammate Truong Vinh Hien had to stop before Jack Wong with a score of 0-2 (4-11, 0-11) in the men's singles semi-finals of the PPA Asia Tour Open 2025.

This result means that Ly Hoang Nam will face Jack Wong directly in the final, bringing with him great expectations for Vietnamese pickleball. In the group of 4 excellent male singles players of Vietnamese pickleball at present, only Ly Hoang Nam has never reached the highest podium in the PPA Tour tournaments.
