Opening of the FIFA 2025 Member Association Referee Supervision Course

VHO - On the morning of November 27, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the opening ceremony of the FIFA 2025 member football federation referee supervision course took place.

The opening ceremony of the FIFA 2025 Referee Supervision Course took place on the morning of November 27.

The course, which took place from November 27-30, is part of the Vietnam Football Federation’s plan to train, update and improve the expertise of the referee supervisor team; at the same time, train new referee supervisor candidates to supplement resources for referee training and development and serve national football tournaments.

Speaking at the opening of the course, Mr. Mohamad Rodzali Bin Yacob, officer in charge of FIFA referee development office in Asia, thanked the Vietnam Football Federation for its cooperation and active support for referee development.

Mr. Mohamad Rodzali Bin Yacob acknowledged the efforts of the Vietnam Football Federation in recent times, and emphasized the important role of referee supervisors, those responsible for ensuring professional quality and advising referees in accordance with the latest standards of FIFA and AFC.

Mr. Mohamad Rodzali Bin Yacob expressed his hope that students will actively discuss and ask questions throughout the course to improve their skills in analyzing and evaluating matches.

FIFA representatives believe that this program will help Vietnamese referee supervisors update new knowledge, thereby providing more accurate and effective suggestions to the domestic referee team.

Mr. Mohamad Rodzali Bin Yacob also emphasized FIFA's orientation in investing in developing global referees and hopes that Vietnam will continue to have more quality referees capable of officiating at AFC and FIFA tournaments in the future.

On behalf of the Vietnam Football Federation and the course organizing committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation, spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing that the professional quality of national tournaments in recent times has improved significantly with the important contribution of refereeing.

According to General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu, the professional quality of the tournaments has increased first of all thanks to the referee team's mastery of professional requirements, showing determination, decisiveness and confidence in their decisions on the field, and at the same time coordinating well with relevant departments.

In particular, the team of referee supervisors and instructors plays a key role when directly participating in training, orientation, controlling the quality of operations and contributing to maintaining the fairness and transparency of tournaments.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation, emphasized that the professional quality of national tournaments in recent times has improved significantly with the important contribution of refereeing work.

Secretary General Nguyen Van Phu affirmed that regularly updating knowledge and improving expertise for referee instructors and referee supervisors is one of the top priorities of the Vietnam Football Federation.

This course therefore plays an important role in maintaining the quality of refereeing work, while preparing human resources for the 2026 season and long-term plans.

“For that purpose and meaning, the Vietnam Football Federation recommends that students attend the course with a proactive and open-minded spirit and make the most of the opportunity to work with FIFA instructors to perfect their professional skills and teaching methods, which are key requirements for every referee instructor and referee supervisor,” General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu emphasized.

The FIFA 2025 Referee Supervisor Course has 34 referee supervisors, of which 5 are currently serving as referee instructors: Mr. Duong Van Hien, Mr. Ngo Quoc Hung, Mr. Pham Manh Long, Mr. Nguyen Hien Triet and Mr. Nguyen Nhu Phong.

In addition, three national referees who have passed the age of officiating, including Mr. Truong Duc Chien, Mr. Hoang Thanh Binh and Mr. Do Thanh De, will also continue to attend the course to be trained to become referee supervisors.

This year’s course focuses on updating the latest professional content, notably the changes to the 2025/26 competition law. In addition, FIFA lecturers will directly present and discuss many in-depth topics throughout the three days, to help students improve their ability to analyze, evaluate and standardize monitoring methods according to international standards.

This year's course focuses on updating the latest professional content.

This is not only an opportunity to update professional knowledge but also an important opportunity for the Vietnamese referee supervision team to improve analytical thinking, standardize evaluation processes and access modern training trends according to FIFA/AFC standards.

With the support of FIFA instructors and the initiative of students, this year's program is expected to contribute to improving the quality of refereeing, thereby enhancing the professionalism and prestige of national football tournaments.
