Affirming the value and brand of A Rieu chili

On the morning of August 15, at Dong Giang Heaven Gate Eco-tourism Area (Ma Cooih Commune, Dong Giang District, Quang Nam Province), Dong Giang District People's Committee held the Opening Ceremony of the First A Rieu Chili Festival in 2024. Comrade Le Van Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee attended the Ceremony.

The festival is attended by 11 communes and towns in Dong Giang district. During the festival (August 15 and 16), Dong Giang Heaven Gate Eco-tourism Area will be open for free to the Co Tu people in the province to create conditions for people to participate in cultural exchanges during the festival, visit and experience free services at the tourist area.

Along with that, many impressive cultural and tourism activities were also organized such as: opening and closing art programs, photo exhibitions of agricultural products and OCOP products, culinary displays, presentation competitions to promote local traditional cuisine and A Rieu chili products, Drum and gong dance competition with sacred fire, reenactment of the A Rieu chili sacred object procession ritual... helping visitors and locals to visit and experience the unique cultural space of the Festival.

In addition, people and tourists can also participate in many unique art activities, imbued with the indigenous cultural identity of the local people of Quang Nam province, with many recreational sports activities such as: slingshot shooting, swimming, A Rieu chili eating contest with Quang noodles, the Great Forest Dance show and cultural exchanges....

A Rieu chili is recognized as an organic agricultural product.
Completely natural and labeled with 4-star provincial OCOP.

At the Festival, people and tourists can also visit the promotional space, introducing the "Dong Giang Agricultural Products Fair 2024" with booths introducing typical products of the Dong Giang mountainous region, especially products related to A Rieu chili.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice Chairman of Dong Giang District People's Committee Dinh Van Bao said: A Rieu chili is one of the important spices in dishes and has become a part of the culture of the Co Tu people living in the Truong Son mountain range. A Rieu in Co Tu language means a starling, the A Rieu chili in Dong Giang region is named after the legend of the starling eating the chili growing in the forest, from which the seeds spread throughout the mountains and forests. Thanks to the unique soil and climate conditions, the difference in this chili variety is quite small in size, has a very characteristic spicy and aromatic taste, quite different from chili varieties in other places. This is a product of commercial value, suitable for consumer tastes and brings high income to the people.

This chili variety is recognized as a completely natural organic agricultural product and has been labeled with the 4-star OCOP label at the provincial level, contributing to improving the livelihoods and sustainable development of ethnic minorities in the mountainous areas towards commodity production and biodiversity conservation. Over the past many years, in order to preserve, enhance the value and build a distinctive brand of A Rieu chili variety, form a specialized area for producing A Rieu chili in the direction of commodities, improve production capacity and income for people, Dong Giang district has implemented a project to preserve and develop A Rieu chili variety in Ma Cooih commune according to the planning for the period 2022 - 2025 with an area in the district reaching 50 hectares.

This agricultural crop is currently widely grown in many communes and has now been propagated on 12 hectares, with about 100 households participating. This type of chili has a year-round harvest yield, with an estimated output in the area of ​​10.5 tons. When pre-processed, this chili variety will be preserved and processed into many typical local foods such as salted A Rieu chili, A Rieu chili sauce, A Rieu chili salt, sour salted A Rieu chili....

People and tourists participate in the Festival and visit agricultural stalls at the Festival.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, comrade Le Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province emphasized: "The first A Rieu Chili Festival will be an activity associated with the development of agricultural products and eco-tourism in Dong Giang district, to honor and affirm the value, origin and brand of A Rieu chili of Quang Nam province in general and Dong Giang in particular, contributing to the pride in the image of people and homeland of Dong Giang, Quang Nam. Through the series of events, the first A Rieu Chili Festival in 2024 is expected to be an opportunity to open a channel for trade promotion, stimulate consumption and exchange experiences and information on the application of scientific and technological advances; be a bridge between production and consumption, creating opportunities for businesses and producers to sign contracts for product consumption".

At the opening ceremony, a signing ceremony for the purchase of A Rieu chili products took place between representatives of Dong Giang Heaven's Gate Eco-tourism Area and Ma Cooih Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative./.
