Accounting for nearly 50% of the province's population and more than 47% of the workforce, in recent years, Quang Ninh women have actively participated and increasingly affirmed their role in all sectors and fields of politics , economics, culture and society, making positive and comprehensive contributions to the overall development of the province and the country.
It is worth noting that the proportion of women holding leadership positions in provincial agencies is quite high and there are female cadres participating in key leadership positions of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation. In the 2020-2025 term, the proportion of women participating in Party committees at all levels reached 29.3%, at the district level 22%, and at the provincial level 17.9%. The proportion of women being People's Council delegates at all levels in the 2021-2026 term reached 36.36% at the grassroots level, 34.05% at the district level, and 40.9% at the provincial level.
For Quang Ninh women to assert their political power and eliminate gender inequality, the role of Party committees at all levels, local authorities and especially the Provincial Women's Union is indispensable.
As with Project 8 “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children” - under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021-2030 in the province, Phase I (2021-2025). Thanks to the active participation of the Association’s staff from the province to the grassroots level, the project’s contents have changed gender stereotypes, promoting the role of women in the family and society.
Accordingly, in the period of 2021-2024, the Provincial Women's Union organized 28 training courses on knowledge and skills to propagate domestic violence prevention; prevention of abuse against women and children; eliminating gender prejudice and gender stereotypes, preventing and responding to gender-based violence... with 2,693 participants.
The Association has established 71/35 community communication teams in particularly difficult villages and hamlets in Hai Ha and Binh Lieu districts. Communication content focuses on promoting the elimination of prejudice, gender stereotypes, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children.
In particular, every year, in response to the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence or the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Women's Union at all levels in the province organizes many practical activities in various forms such as: Conferences on specialized activities to learn knowledge related to gender equality through knowledge-gathering competitions, word-catching contests; Conference on "Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence"; Launching Ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality; Community communication to propagate and mobilize people in ethnic minority areas to change their thinking and ways of doing things, eliminate gender prejudices and stereotypes, contributing to the implementation of gender equality.
The emulation movements: "Building a new-age Vietnamese woman"; "Building the image of a new-age Quang Ninh woman with knowledge, morality, health, dynamism, creativity, civilization, friendliness" associated with the movement "Studying and following Uncle Ho"... also contribute to spreading the spirit of innovation, encouraging women to engage in leading and planning fields.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh Thin, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: In the coming time, the Provincial Women's Union will continue to innovate and improve propaganda, mobilization, andeducation to raise awareness and knowledge for officials, members and people about the policies and laws of the Party, the State, and the province related to gender equality, for the advancement of women. Along with that, promoting gender equality through continuing to effectively implement national target programs, projects assigned to the Women's Union; programs and movements launched by the Union such as: "Accompanying women in the border areas" program, "Godmother" program.
In particular, continue to further promote the role of social supervision and criticism of Women's Unions at all levels; actively participate in Party building and government building; proactively grasp and promptly reflect the ideological situation of members, women and people, public opinion, especially cases related to the rights, interests, legality and legitimacy of members and women. From there, promptly speak up to protect and participate in resolving cases of women and children being subjected to violence and abuse. Strengthen consultation and coordination in organizing policy dialogues between leaders/representatives of local Party committees and authorities at all levels and women's union members.
With their initiative, courage and innovative spirit, Quang Ninh women have been contributing to eliminating gender barriers that have existed for a long time. They not only affirm their role in the family but also gradually rise strongly in the fields of politics, economics, culture and society. Thereby, contributing to building a modern, civilized and sustainably developed Quang Ninh.
