Affirming the role of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art

On the afternoon of April 11, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts.

Speaking at the working session, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia said that after the 13th National Party Congress, the Secretariat has innovated in assigning leaders to Central Party Committees in monitoring the activities of Unions and Associations.

In that spirit, the Central Propaganda Department is assigned to monitor the Union of Associations and specialized Associations, in which the importance of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts and the Science Council of Central Party Agencies is determined.

Emphasizing that the Party always pays attention to literature and art, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia stated that after the 13th Congress, that attention has been increasingly strengthened and enhanced with great wishes and determination. Accordingly, the Party requires that criticism and theory of literature and art must be closely linked to practice.

In the article "Some theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted a large and profound amount of space to expressing the views of the 13th National Congress, the General Secretary's views on building an advanced culture imbued with national identity; so that culture can truly become an endogenous strength and a driving force for the country's development.

Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia said that with the attention and guidance of the Party, Vietnam's literary and artistic life after the 13th National Congress has had new inheritances and flourishing, richness and diversity, including the activities of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations and specialized associations, as well as the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts.

The Head of the Central Propaganda Department noted that in the first year of its 5th term, inheriting the tradition of more than 20 years of operation, immediately after announcing the decision to establish, the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art has made great efforts to carry out many research and consulting topics.

The Council has effectively advised the Party in the field of literature and arts, and has conducted many research topics to clarify the Party's guidelines and viewpoints in the field of culture and arts; organized many seminars to summarize Vietnamese literature and arts after 50 years of national reunification; summarized 15 years of implementing Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW of the Politburo (10th tenure) on "Continuing to build and develop literature and arts in the new period" and Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW dated June 9, 2014 of the Party Central Committee, 11th tenure on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development.

On behalf of the Standing Committee and leaders of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Council, said that as of April 2023, the Council has gone through 20 years of construction and growth.

Since October 2022, after decisions on personnel organization and apparatus, the Council for term V (2021-2026) has been operating stably and effectively with 35 members, including 1 Chairman, 5 Vice Chairmen and 29 Members.

According to Associate Professor-PhD Nguyen The Ky, with the function of being an advisory body to the Party and State on theoretical work, literary and artistic criticism, under the direction of the Secretariat, regularly and directly by the Head of the Central Propaganda Department, and the management of the Central Propaganda Department, the Council has focused on propagating and clarifying major important issues in the Party's resolutions and directives, and the State's policies and laws on culture and art.

The Council thoroughly grasps and improves ideological and political awareness, professional capacity, ability, grasp and handle fundamental and urgent issues for the team of leaders, managers of propaganda and culture, those working in cultural and artistic work; fosters professional skills, improves the quality and effectiveness of the team of theorists and critics.

The Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art organizes conferences, seminars, and scientific discussions to serve the requirements of cultural and artistic life; summarizes theoretical and practical research in literary and artistic activities; participates in the struggle to protect the Party's ideological foundation, refutes erroneous and hostile viewpoints and arguments; conducts the consideration and awards of the Secretariat for high-quality works of literary and artistic theory and criticism published in 2021...

Based on the orientation speech of the Head of the Central Propaganda Department and the practical activities of the Council, delegates attending the working session discussed and proposed a number of ideas and recommendations to improve the quality of activities of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art in the country's literary and artistic life.

Concluding the meeting, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia acknowledged the opinions and affirmed the role, position and activities of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts in recent times.

The Council brings together members with extensive experience and passion for the development of the country's literature and arts; effectively implementing key tasks assigned by the Secretariat; demonstrating outstanding performance through advice to help the Party make strong decisions on culture and arts.

Agreeing with the groups of proposals and recommendations raised at the working session, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the Council pay attention to and promote the intelligence and contributions of each member; strengthen research to clarify and perfect the Party's theoretical system on literature and art in accordance with the country's development practices; promote theoretical research and systematically summarize practices; closely coordinate with relevant agencies and units; increase the quantity and improve the quality of advisory reports to the Secretariat, especially specialized and in-depth advice on important and prominent issues in the country's literary and artistic life.

To perform these tasks well, according to the Head of the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art needs to focus on training and improving the level of research in theory and criticism of literature and art; on that basis, there will be quality research topics and subjects.

The Council should consider this as the main criterion to evaluate its position, role and influence in the country's literary and artistic life.

The Council also needs to create a harmonious exchange and connection between those who do theoretical and critical research and those who directly work in literature and art; thereby uniting, orienting and encouraging theorists, critics and writers and artists to closely follow and follow the Party's guidelines and viewpoints on culture and art.
