Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoa Nam recently chaired a meeting with relevant departments and branches to remove obstacles in site clearance and construction of resettlement areas for the North-South high-speed railway project.
According to the report of the Department of Construction, the project passes through 29 communes and wards with a length of about 191.8km, the total land area recovered is more than 2,134ha, affecting 5,465 households and 36 organizations (including 3 schools). It is expected that 1,680 households will need to be resettled.
The province proposed to arrange 28 resettlement areas, with a total area of over 61.2 hectares. Of these, 13 areas have available land funds, 15 areas will be newly built or expanded. The total estimated cost of implementation is about 1,142 billion VND.
Notably, the Provincial People's Committee has registered with the Ministry of Construction to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cam Thinh Dong resettlement area (in Nam Cam Ranh commune) on August 19, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2. However, the project is currently facing complaints about the bidding package of the Cam Thinh Dong resettlement area project and is waiting for the Department of Finance to resolve.
The Department of Construction recommends that the Provincial People's Committee direct the early settlement of complaints to complete the contractor selection procedures and implement the groundbreaking ceremony as planned. At the same time, direct the Department of Finance to promptly report to the Provincial People's Committee on capital allocation for investors to carry out resettlement, technical infrastructure relocation, and site clearance.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoa Nam requested relevant departments to send written comments to the Department of Construction, and assigned the Provincial People's Committee Office to advise on the establishment of a Steering Committee for project implementation, to ensure progress and synchronous coordination.
According to the plan, the construction of the resettlement area will be carried out from March 2025 to December 2026. The inventory, compensation plan and resettlement support will take place from March 2026 to December 2026; and compensation payments and resettlement will be carried out from June 2026 to June 2028.
The North-South high-speed railway project, the Nha Trang – Ho Chi Minh City section, is over 360km long, passing through Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dong Nai provinces and Ho Chi Minh City. The government plans to start the project in December 2026 and complete it in 2035.
