On the morning of November 24, after the biggest flood in more than half a century, many areas in Khanh Hoa province had seen the water recede and schools began to reopen. Children came to class with their clothes in disarray, without books or shoes because everything had been swept away by the flood. In the classrooms, computers, teaching screens, printers... were all severely damaged.

Schools in Khanh Hoa province suffered heavy damage due to floods.
At Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School (West Nha Trang Ward), teacher Dao Quang Khanh said that the school year resumed in a situation of shortages in all aspects: “The school needs books and school supplies for students the most. The office needs printers, photocopiers, and computers because everything is flooded. Classrooms lack books so they need televisions for teachers to show documents to the children.”

Mr. Dao Quang Khanh, Principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School, Tay Nha Trang Ward, supports milk and water for students.

Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee (3rd from left) requested to speed up cleaning of schools and classrooms to welcome students back to school soon.
Like Nha Trang, the southern area of the province, formerly part of Ninh Thuan such as Do Vinh, Phuoc Hau, Ninh Phuoc... is also the epicenter of damage due to flooding. Khanh Hoa Provincial Police have deployed youth teams to support schools, helping students return to class soon. The health sector focuses on cleaning, disinfecting, and restoring medical stations. The electricity and water supply and drainage sectors are racing against time: temporarily patching pipelines, replacing meters, reinforcing transformer stations, and re-wiring power lines. Hundreds of workers work day and night, wading through mud, lifting cables, erecting power poles, and restoring loads. Thanks to that, most residential areas have had electricity restored, and people can pump water to clean their houses and resume their daily lives.

The armed forces are an important support. Soldiers and police were present early in the devastated areas, helping to clean up schools, medical stations and residential areas.
Major Nguyen Duy Hung, Head of the Youth Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, said: “We are making the most of our resources, especially fire pumps. The goal is to clean up the mud, prioritizing schools so that children can return soon. Desks, chairs, and classrooms are all cleaned inside and out, with a huge amount of mud and trash.”

Along the streets in Khanh Hoa province are still very messy.
Not letting people go hungry, lack water, and lack safe housing is a constant requirement. Khanh Hoa province is organizing the urgent distribution of necessities: clean water, milk, blankets for households that cannot cook for themselves. Each person in the flooded area is supported with 1 million VND; students are supported with 500,000 VND to buy books; people whose houses have collapsed or are severely damaged are surveyed to transfer to support for reconstruction. At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City has strongly supported Khanh Hoa province: sending medical forces, supplies, equipment to repair schools, set up kitchens, and provide free medicine.

Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, said that the timely cooperation helped schools open earlier than expected: "In the immediate future, on February 1, when there is no equipment to replace the damaged ones, schools will open their doors to welcome children to study and get acquainted. Because after the past few days off, children will regain their atmosphere, go to school to meet their friends, feel refreshed, and prepare for the best study when they have full equipment."

Khanh Hoa Provincial Police mobilized forces and vehicles to clean schools.
With the support of the Government, ministries and branches and the spirit of "not leaving natural disasters to chance", Khanh Hoa is focusing all its efforts on helping people stabilize their lives, restore production and return to development after the historic flood.
