This year, the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City no longer has the image of candidates cheering because the literature test was "easy" and then bursting into tears because of the difficult math test. Instead, the exam subjects were assessed by candidates as being within their ability, with only a few "point-limiting" questions to differentiate abilities. This contributed to making the first 10th grade exam under the new program easier when up to 91.7% of candidates will be admitted to public schools, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
"In theory" it is like that, but when recording at the exam sites, we still always feel the pressure from one of the most important exams in Ho Chi Minh City, when many parents said they were still "holding their breath" because their children were taking the 10th grade exam even though the passing rate was higher than every year. However, it is easy to see that parents are not alone outside the exam school gate, when there is always a team of teachers and volunteer students who always follow and support the candidates wholeheartedly.
Before receiving the 10th grade exam results and official benchmark scores from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, expected to be released between June 23 and 26, let's take a look back at the meaningful moments in the 2025 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City with Thanh Nien .
On the morning of June 6, about 76,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City entered the 10th grade exam to compete for a place in public schools with the first subject being literature - also the subject with the most changes in the exam structure according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. At the exam site of Rang Dong Secondary School (Binh Thanh District), before 6 o'clock, many teachers from secondary schools in Binh Thanh District came to the school gate to take attendance and encourage students, ensuring that no student was late. This has been a tradition for many years to encourage students' spirit, helping them feel calm and comfortable, according to Ms. Dinh Thi Thien An, Principal of Nguyen Van Be Secondary School.

A group of students from Nguyen Van Be Secondary School were excited before the literature exam. Many of them hoped that the topic would be related to patriotism as this year our country celebrates the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day on April 30 with the "National Concert" program (a fun way for young people to call the parade - PV) and towards the 80th anniversary of National Day.

At the exam site of Binh An Secondary School (District 8), many people were touched by the story of Mai Xuan Trieu, a student of Phan Dang Luu Secondary School (District 8). Although he had spinal muscular atrophy since childhood and had to use a wheelchair to go to school, Trieu always tried to improve himself, was an excellent student for many years and wanted to pass the entrance exam to Hung Vuong High School (District 5). "The school is near my mother's workplace, so it will be less difficult for her to take me to school in the future. I have received a lot of help from everyone, so I always try my best to be worthy of that support, as well as not to let my mother down," Trieu shared.

After finishing the literature test, many candidates at the Le Van Tam Secondary School (Binh Thanh District) said that the test was within their ability, but the social argumentation question about "knowing how to read" - that is, knowing how to recognize good values that are being hidden - made them confused. This question accounted for 4/10 points, so many candidates were only confident that they had achieved an above average score, from 5-7, although the topic of this year's test was "On the journey to adulthood..." which was assessed by candidates as familiar.

In the afternoon of the same day, after the foreign language exam, many candidates commented that the English test was "just right", and that they could easily get a score of 8 or higher. At the exam site of Trung Vuong High School (District 1), a candidate commented that the questions in the test were "very easy and quite simple", "not getting 10 would be a waste!". In the photo, candidate Nguyen Truong Minh, studying at Thanh Da Secondary School (Binh Thanh District), happily discussed the results with friends.

On the morning of June 7, candidates in Ho Chi Minh City continued to take the math exam. This is the exam that made many candidates cry in 2024 because it was "very difficult", especially in the form of practical math with plane geometry. That is also the reason why many candidates this year said they focused on reviewing this part, not only from lectures in regular classes or tutoring centers, but they also searched and listened to lectures from teachers on the social network TikTok.

At the exam site of Hong Bang Secondary School (District 5), a rare incident occurred when some students took the math test but did not bring... compasses or rulers. Immediately, Ms. Vu Thi Huong, Vice Principal of Hong Bang Secondary School, came to reassure the candidates and asked for help from volunteer students participating in the Hoa Phuong Do campaign who were outside the school gate cheering on the candidates. "After visiting two convenience stores but not being able to buy anything, I was lucky to find a stationery store that still had enough stock so I bought everything. I was also worried about my friends so I was a bit nervous when I went to buy it, so I tried to run a little faster so that my friends could get the supplies on time", Van Huynh Le Minh, a student of Tran Khai Nguyen High School (District 5), shared while his helmet was still tightly fastened on his head.

After finishing the math exam - also the last exam for candidates who only registered for the general program - many students left the exam site with smiles on their faces because they thought the exam was within their ability, with only a few questions that differentiated them. Those were practical problems related to geometry and question c was a plane geometry question, requiring candidates to have reasoning skills to find a way to solve the problem, according to the teacher.

Among the "forest" of candidates in an excited mood, Phuc An, a student at Vo Thanh Trang Secondary School (Tan Phu District), made everyone worried when she suddenly burst into tears when she saw her father waiting outside the school gate. As soon as he saw this scene, An's father immediately ran to hug the female student, wiping away her tears. However, after only a few moments, her father immediately rejoiced, waving his hand to signal his joy to the other worried parents. That was because the female student did not cry because she did not do well on the test, but because she performed beyond expectations with a score of 9 or higher, giving her another chance to conquer Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (District 5).

At the Hung Vuong High School exam site, students from Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District) lined up in two rows at the school gate, continuously clapping their hands to encourage and wish the candidates would be admitted to their dream school.

Meanwhile, around the exam sites, whether it's sunny or rainy, parents who double as "motorbike taxi drivers" always line up to pick up their children after the exam.

A beautiful scene outside the school gate when family members came to the exam site to wait for the candidates, regardless of rain or shine. When meeting the second sister, the youngest member quickly fell asleep in her warm arms.

At the exam site of Luong The Vinh High School (District 1), a student was surprised by the appearance of homeroom teacher My Trinh, a teacher at Pham Van Chieu High School (Go Vap District). Ms. Trinh said that after each exam session, she spent time going to each exam site to encourage her students. Most of Ms. Trinh's class members took the exam in Go Vap District, only one student had to take the bus to District 1 to compete because he registered for the English major exam. And so, despite the heavy rain and the refusal of her family, Ms. Trinh completed her goal of meeting and encouraging all of her students.

The 10th grade exam has ended, but the journey to write the candidates' dreams has only just begun. With all the worries of their parents on their shoulders, we hope that you will always be radiant, make efforts, confidently conquer all the challenges ahead and gradually find your own sky.
