Arousing traditional cultural beauty and national pride

The 2024 Temple Festival of Grand Master Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu is an occasion to commemorate and honor the great contributions of the cultural and military celebrity Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu to the cause of building and developing the nation and people in general, Thanh Hoa homeland and Nghi Son town in particular.

Dao Duy Tu, whose given name was Loc Khe, was born in the year of Nham Than (1572), in Hoa Trai village, Van Trai commune, Ngoc Son district, Tinh Gia prefecture (now Son Thang residential group, Nguyen Binh ward, Nghi Son town). As a child, he was very intelligent and a good student. In 1625, Dao Duy Tu left the North to live and build his career in Tung Chau land, Bong Son district, Hoai Nhon prefecture (now Ngoc Son Bac residential group, Hoai Thanh Tay ward, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province).

At first, in a foreign land, he had to work for hire to make a living. However, with his diligent and hard-working nature, he tried hard to study and cultivate his virtues and talents, thanks to which his reputation spread far and wide, and he was famous for being "well-versed in both ancient and modern times". Thanks to that, the Ly Inspector Tran Duc Hoa invited Dao Duy Tu to come to his house to teach, and from here, his reputation spread to the Lord's palace. He was invited by Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen to become an official to help the Lord build a great career in Dang Trong.

In 1627, Dao Duy Tu was highly regarded by Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen and given the position of Nha Uy Noi Tan Tuoc Loc Khe Hau, overseeing military affairs and national affairs. In just a short period of 8 years, Dao Duy Tu made outstanding contributions in the fields of politics , economics, military and literature and art, becoming a great historical figure of the 17th century in our country, praised as a talent "Kinh bang hoa quoc, thong nhat xa thu".

The Temple Festival of Grand Master Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu is held annually by Nghi Son town to commemorate and honor his great contributions to the country and homeland.

He had the merit of reclaiming and expanding the Southern land, especially the famous military project of Luy Truong Duc (Luy Thay); had many achievements in laying a solid foundation for the Nguyen Dynasty, such as: reforming politics; mandarin system; examinations, taxes, internal affairs, diplomacy , making Dang Trong prosperous and powerful; at the same time, he left behind many valuable literary works, typically: "Ngoa Long Cuong Van". He was also the founder of Tuong singing, especially the masterpiece of Tuong dance Son Hau.

Dao Duy Tu died on the 17th day of the 10th lunar month of the year of Giap Tuat (1634), at the age of 63. After his death, Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen conferred on him the title of "Hiep Dong Muu Duc Cong Than, Dac Tien Kim Tu Vinh Loc Dai Phu, Thai Thuong Tu Khanh, and the title of Loc Khe Hau; posthumously gave him the name Trung Luong and ordered him to be buried in Tung Chau, Hoai Nhon prefecture (now Hoai Thanh Tay ward, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province) and ordered the construction of a temple. In the 9th year of Gia Long's reign, he was honored as the first meritorious mandarin of the Nguyen Dynasty and was brought to the Thai Mieu to be worshiped together with the Nguyen lords.

In the 12th year of Minh Mang (1831), he was posthumously awarded the title of "Khai Quoc Cong Than, Dac Tien Vinh Loc Dai Phu, Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si, Thai Su" and was given the title of Hoang Quoc Cong. In 1939, Dao Duy Tu was posthumously awarded the title "Khai Quoc Cong Than, Dac Tien Vinh Loc, Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si, Thai Su, Hoang Quoc Cong, Trac Vi Thuong Dang Than" by King Bao Dai; he ordered the people of No Giap village to bring the palanquin to Van Trai station to receive the decree and build a temple to worship Dao Duy Tu in his hometown.

In the hometown of Nguyen Binh ward (Nghi Son town), the temple of Grand Master Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu is a historical and cultural relic recognized by the State as a national relic according to Decision No. 29/QDVH dated February 30, 2002 of the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). In December 2021, the Temple historical relic was recognized as a provincial-level tourist destination.

On November 16 and 17, 2024 (ie October 16 and 17, the year of the Dragon), Nghi Son town will organize the Temple Festival of Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu. The event aims to commemorate the 390th anniversary of the death of the cultural and military celebrity Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu (October 17, the year of the Dog 1634 - October 17, the year of the Dragon 2024).

The festival is organized with the following contents: Procession of the palanquin of the cultural and military celebrity Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu; presentation of the memorial; ringing of bells and drums; speech commemorating the 390th anniversary of the death of the cultural and military celebrity Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu; ribbon cutting to inaugurate the project to restore and embellish the historical relic of the Temple of Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu, phase 2.

Along with that, there is an art program dramatizing the historical figure Dao Duy Tu with the theme: "Grand Master Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu - The First Founding Hero" consisting of 3 chapters to vividly recreate his life, career and great contributions to his homeland and country. Within the framework of the festival, there will also be a Chinese chess tournament and an exhibition and introduction of the book "Cultural celebrity Dao Duy Tu".
