Launch of the Second Comic Creation Contest

(To Quoc) - With the desire to find Vietnamese comic authors and artists and develop Vietnamese comic art, the French Institute in Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Vietnam jointly organize the second Comic Creation Contest, with submissions from January 15 to June 30, 2025.


The first comic book creation contest held in 2024, jointly organized by the French Institute in Vietnam and Kim Dong Publishing House, attracted the attention of many comic book authors and artists across the country, with more than 100 valid entries sent in over a period of 5 months.

In the first edition, the jury, consisting of prestigious authors and artists from France and Vietnam (Clément Baloup, Maxime Péroz, Ta Huy Long, Nguyen Thanh Phong), selected the best works to award prizes. The winning works will be published by Kim Dong Publishing House in 2025 with support from the French Institute in Vietnam.

Red Pencil - Second Prize Winner of the First Comic Writing Contest

With the desire to continue searching for Vietnamese comic authors and artists and develop Vietnamese comic art, in 2025, the French Institute in Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Vietnam will organize the second Comic Creation Competition. The competition will not only be an opportunity for comic authors and artists to demonstrate their talents, but also contribute to discovering talents, building a comic creation community and developing this art book genre in Vietnam.

This year's competition will continue to invite the Jury, which is a prestigious group of authors and artists from France, Belgium and Vietnam. The competition is open to professional and non-professional authors who are Vietnamese citizens aged 18 and over, living, working and studying in and outside the country. Members of the Organizing Committee and the Jury are not allowed to participate. The competition is open to those aged 13 and over.

According to the regulations, participants must accept the terms and decisions set forth by the Organizing Committee. The works submitted to the contest must not have been published or submitted to any publisher; not submitted to any other contest; not published in newspapers or published in the media, personal pages, information pages, online forums. The author is responsible for the copyright of the works submitted to the Contest and the Organizing Committee does not accept translated or adapted works.

The works sent to the Organizing Committee must be complete works with a minimum of 10 comic pages, with the following specific specifications: size: 18cmx25cm with a white margin around the picture of 15mm; Resolution with digital files of 300dpi; hand-drawn works can also be scanned with a resolution of 300dpi; JPG or PSD format... starting with a single page, it is recommended that the work have both single and double pages; The minimum font size of the text is 12pt; The author's introduction must clearly state the real name, pen name, year of birth, address, email and contact phone number; The summary of the work must clearly state the name of the work, the summary must not exceed 200 words; There is no limit to the number of works submitted by each author/group of authors.

The Organizing Committee also stipulates the form of submitting entries: For manuscripts in digital file format, authors send to the Organizing Committee's email address: [email protected] The email title clearly states the information in the form: [Comic Book] Name of work; For manuscripts on paper, authors send directly or by post (copy or original of work) to the address: Kim Dong Publishing House, 55 Quang Trung, Nguyen Du Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi. On the envelope, clearly state: Participate in COMIC BOOK CREATION CONTEST 2025

The Organizing Committee is not responsible for works submitted after the specified time and any loss during the process of submitting works. The deadline for receiving works is from January 15, 2025 to June 30, 2025. The Contest is expected to conclude in October 2025.

Regarding the prize structure, the Organizing Committee will award First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize and Consolation Prize, specifically as follows: First Prize is a 7-day trip (including travel time) to attend the Angoulême Comics Festival, France (expected around January-February 2026); if the First Prize belongs to a group of authors with more than two members, the Organizing Committee will only cover the expenses for a maximum of two members whose work wins the First Prize: round-trip airfare from Vietnam to France and visas issued from Vietnam. Second Prize: 15,000,000 VND. Third Prize: 10,000,000 VND. Consolation Prize: 5,000,000 VND. Accompanied by a Certificate from the French Institute in Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Vietnam.

The Organizing Committee also said that the winning works will be selected and introduced to readers. Authors whose works are published will receive royalties and a number of published books according to the regulations of Kim Dong Publishing House. With works awarded from the Contest, the Publisher has the right to exploit the work in the form of publishing for a minimum period of 5 years and has the right to priority to renew the contract to use the work when the term expires. Contestants must agree to comply with all regulations. Any fraudulent acts will result in the contestant being disqualified.
