Ms. Pham Thi Phuong (Phu Son Nam village, Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang district) has just re-herded with nearly 40 pigs. Compared to 5 months ago, her pig herd has decreased by more than half. Ms. Phuong said that other farmers in the area are worried about the disease continuing to break out, especially at the end of the year. Currently, the price of live pigs is increasing to 60,000-65,000 VND/kg, an increase of 5,000-7,000 VND/kg compared to the purchase price in the past 3 months. She plans to sell about 20 pigs weighing 60-70kg during Tet.
“Although pork prices have increased, the prices of pig feed are still high, making it difficult to re-herd in large numbers. If other sources of feed are not used, farmers will certainly not make a profit,” said Ms. Phuong. At the Hoa Phong 1 Agricultural Production Service Cooperative (Hoa Phong Commune, Hoa Vang District), members are actively taking care of chickens and ducks to supply the market during the peak Tet holiday season.
Mr. Nguyen Si, Director of the Cooperative, said that the livestock situation this year has been difficult due to many factors, affecting the number of chickens and ducks. It is expected that at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year 2025, the Cooperative will release about 4,000 free-range chickens and 3,000 ducks to the market. With the forecast of high demand from people, farmers have been restocking for about a month now to ensure the weight and quality of the meat. Currently, the price of cleaned and packaged chicken is 140,000 VND/kg and 100,000 VND/kg for live chicken. The price of chicken near Tet may increase by about 5-10%.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Vang district, as of early November 2024, the whole district raised 25,844 pigs, 25,844 poultry, 4,768 cows...
According to Mr. Dang Ngoc Son, Head of the Department of Agriculture (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), the livestock situation in the city is stable, with no dangerous infectious diseases. The Department will continue to coordinate with localities to strengthen propaganda and guide livestock farmers to effectively implement the prevention and control of animal diseases in the city, especially African swine fever. However, livestock production is facing many difficulties due to many factors.
Therefore, the city's agricultural sector strengthens measures to control the source of imported frozen products into the market (including official imports and from other sources...); provides full and transparent information on the prices of livestock products; forecasts information on the supply and demand of livestock products so that people know and adjust livestock production activities in each stage.
According to statistics from the City's Department of Agriculture, frozen animal products imported through the city's two traffic quarantine stations by the end of October 2024 reached about 6,128 tons (an average of about 612.8 tons/month), down about 12.2% compared to the monthly average of 2023 (698.6 tons/month). The source of pork supplied for Tet this year accounts for about 80-85% imported from provinces and cities nationwide such as Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam... and 10-15% is the city's meat source. The number of pigs brought to Da Nang Food Processing Company Limited for slaughter at this time is about 1,200-1,300 pigs/day. |
