(HG) - In recent days, pineapple farmers in the province have been selling off-season pineapples at quite high prices. Currently, traders are coming to the fields to buy grade 1 pineapples at prices ranging from 10,000-11,000 VND/fruit, while people are selling them at retail prices of up to 15,000 VND/fruit, but the quantity of pineapples harvested at this time is not much. At this price, it has increased by 3,000-4,000 VND/fruit compared to last month.
Off-season pineapples are harvested by farmers in Hoa Tien commune and sold at quite high prices.
According to statistics, the pineapple growing area of the province is currently about 3,000 hectares, mainly grown in Vi Thanh city and Long My district, with the main variety being Queen pineapple (Cau Duc pineapple). In Vi Thanh city alone, the pineapple growing area is about 2,800 hectares.
According to pineapple growers in Hoa Tien commune, Vi Thanh city, the sharp increase in pineapple prices is due to limited supply while market demand is still very high. The high price of pineapple is also a motivation for farmers to continue investing in intensive farming, applying science and technology in production to increase productivity and quality, and combining inter-cropping to meet domestic and foreign market demand.
