In case of purchasing international air tickets, passengers do not need to prepare an identity card (citizen identification card), but instead a passport and visa (entry visa).
For domestic flights, ID card is one of the necessary documents when traveling by plane. Passengers need to present their ID card or citizen identification card to verify personal information.

Presenting an ID card when checking in is to prove the passenger's identity and whether or not he or she is the owner of the ticket. The check-in staff will check the information such as full name and photo to see if it matches the information on the ticket. If it matches, the passenger will be able to check in and take the flight smoothly.
Therefore, all passengers when traveling by plane must present their ID card or citizen identification card, except in the case of customers who are babies under 2 years old, or children from 2 to 14 years old who are not old enough to be issued an ID card. In this case, customers must present a birth certificate, identity card or passport.
However, if for some reason you lose your ID card (citizen identification card) or these documents are damaged, blurred, or expired, you can still use one of the following documents to check in for your flight: Passport, motorbike or car driver's license (Driver's license), party membership card, National Assembly delegate card, journalist card, identification card of Vietnamese airlines, identification card of the armed forces, aviation security control card, aviation security control card, personal identification certificate confirmed by the local police (place of residence).
However, the types of documents that can replace ID card/Citizen identification card to travel by plane above only apply to the following cases: customers are adults, have Vietnamese nationality, customers take domestic flights.
