Promotion of industry to support the development of Thai Nguyen tea products

Thai Nguyen province currently has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea, of which nearly 23,000 hectares are producing, with an average yield of nearly 13 tons/ha. In recent times, industrial promotion support has always been considered a "midwife" to help businesses, establishments, and households producing and trading tea boldly innovate technology, expand scale and improve competitiveness.

Working delegation of Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade accepted the industrial promotion project at Long Thuy Dung business household, Dai Phuc commune.

In 2025, Thai Nguyen province approved 16 local industrial promotion projects (phase 1) with a total support budget of over 2.6 billion VND. This funding source was assigned to the Center for Industrial Promotion and Industrial Development Consulting under the Department of Industry and Trade for implementation according to Decision No. 1015/QD-UBND dated August 30, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee.

In the tea sector alone, 6 cooperatives, cooperative groups and production households were supported with machinery and equipment for processing, with a total capital of over 1 billion VND. Of which: In Dai Phuc commune, Long Thuy Dung business household was supported with 120 million VND, Son Dung tea cooperative with 160 million VND, Goc Mit hamlet dry tea production and trading cooperative with 200 million VND; Tan Cuong commune had Nguyen Long tea cooperative with 210 million VND; Hao Dat tea cooperative with 210 million VND; Dong Hy commune had Thinh An tea cooperative with 120 million VND.

Sharing about this source of support, Ms. Ta Thi Tuyet, representative of the Goc Mit Hamlet Tea Production and Trading Cooperative, said: This year, the Cooperative invested in a bio-gas tea roaster, 2 gas tea roasters and 14 tea rolling machines with a total cost of more than 405 million VND. The State supported 200 million VND to help us reduce the capital burden and have the conditions to boldly invest more synchronously. The new machines help the tea to be roasted evenly, more beautifully, with stable quality and significantly reduce labor costs.

In fact, in many large tea growing areas of the province, the industrial promotion program is not only financial support, but also a driving force to help production facilities access advanced technology, form modern, clean, environmentally friendly processing processes and move towards sustainable production.

New equipment invested from this support source has helped cooperatives improve efficiency, reduce costs, stabilize tea quality, thereby better meeting the increasingly demanding market.

Son Dung Tea Cooperative, Dai Phuc Commune, received 160 million VND from the industrial promotion fund to invest in a freeze dryer.

In Tan Cuong commune, considered the "capital" of Thai Nguyen tea, Nguyen Long Tea Cooperative is one of the units receiving support in 2025. The Cooperative invested in 1 automatic tea packaging machine and 1 gas tea roasting machine, with a total cost of 460 million VND, of which the industrial promotion supported 210 million VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Diep, Director of Nguyen Long Tea Cooperative, said: The support from industrial promotion helps us change the way we make tea in a more professional direction. Previously, the packaging process was time-consuming, and two workers could only manually make about 2kg of tea a day. Now, with the automatic packaging machine, in just one hour, we can complete up to 8kg, equivalent to 800 100g tea packages. This helps the Cooperative increase output by more than 50% and save on labor costs, while ensuring uniform, beautiful and hygienic product designs.

Ms. Diep added that having access to advanced machinery enables the cooperative to expand its product lines, targeting the gift and e-commerce segments, markets that require high quality packaging, accuracy in weight and appearance.

Nguyen Long Tea Cooperative (Tan Cuong commune) received financial support to invest in 1 automatic tea packaging machine and 1 gas-powered tea roasting machine.

In addition to supporting investment in machinery, the 2025 industrial promotion program also allocates funds for market connection activities, participation in fairs, promotion of typical rural industrial products; at the same time, many training courses on safe production processes, quality standards, brand building and propaganda of industrial promotion policies in key tea areas of the province.

According to Mr. Duong Van Hoan, Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade, in order to promote the development of rural industry in general and the tea economy in particular, the Department has implemented many practical activities in recent years. Every year, the Center for Industrial Promotion and Industrial Consulting is assigned to survey the actual needs of tea processing establishments in localities, thereby selecting the right units with capacity, clear production plans and suitable support criteria.

Mr. Duong Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Thai Nguyen: Industrial promotion aims to support tea enterprises and cooperatives to reduce labor, increase productivity, save costs and gradually create high-quality products to meet market demand. The long-term goal is to promote sustainable development of rural industry, associated with green transformation, digital transformation and increasing the value of agricultural products, especially Thai Nguyen tea products.

Along with economic benefits, the industrial promotion program also has important social significance. Many households that previously produced on a small scale and manually now have the conditions to develop into cooperatives or cooperative groups, forming a closed production, processing and consumption chain.

In order for the industrial promotion program to continue to promote its role as a "midwife" for tea processing establishments, Mr. Duong Van Hoan said that in the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will step up propaganda to help businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups and production households better understand the benefits, conditions and procedures for participating in the program.

The Department will also strengthen inspection and evaluation of the effectiveness of each project to ensure that capital is used for the right purposes, for the right subjects, and brings about real effectiveness.

In the context of the strong spread of green consumption, clean production and digital transformation trends, industrial promotion plays an increasingly important role. With the support of the industrial promotion program, many Thai Nguyen tea production facilities are gradually modernizing their production lines, enhancing their brands and gaining higher values.
