Community agricultural extension accompanies farmers to get rich

Attending the seminar, in addition to representatives of the National Agricultural Extension Center and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Bien, Son La, and Hoa Binh provinces, were 100 delegates from community agricultural extension officers, cooperatives, businesses, and typical farmers.

During the implementation period from 2022 to 2024, 57 provinces and cities nationwide have established nearly 5,200 community agricultural extension teams with about 47,290 members participating. Members of community agricultural extension teams are mainly leaders, commune officials, representatives of local associations and unions, representatives of cooperatives, and good farmers and businessmen.

After 2 years of piloting, the Community Agricultural Extension Project has shown positive signs, receiving attention and support from all levels and sectors, and the active participation of the entire political system from the central to local levels, businesses, cooperatives and farmers.

Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, said: After 2 years of piloting, the National Agricultural Extension Center has organized 56 training courses to improve the capacity of community agricultural extension teams with nearly 1,300 participants. Training and fostering for about 2,000 community agricultural extension officers on knowledge and skills of cooperative economics , production linkage, market development, digital transformation, etc. Community agricultural extension teams in 5 raw material areas have advised and supported about 50 cooperatives with a total area of ​​nearly 10,000 hectares in integrating agricultural extension programs and projects. From there, cooperatives can strengthen the development and application of science and technology in production activities, helping to link production according to the value chain and build and develop agricultural and forestry raw material areas that meet standards.

Accordingly, community agricultural extension has affirmed the role and tasks of the agricultural extension system in the cause of agricultural development and new rural construction, clearly demonstrating the role of supporting farmers. In particular, changing thinking, awareness, consolidating the agricultural extension system on the principle of not changing the apparatus and staff of agricultural extension; innovating and diversifying the functions and activities of grassroots agricultural extension; changing the thinking of agricultural production, intellectualizing farmers, especially in raw material areas, farmers have been reorganized to produce according to the model of cooperatives, cooperatives, participating in production linkages under contracts with enterprises to produce according to processes, standards, and quality according to market requirements...

At the Workshop, the National Agricultural Extension Center and the agricultural extension centers of Hoa Binh, Son La and Dien Bien provinces presented papers and shared experiences. Delegates also introduced results and experiences in building and organizing community agricultural extension groups. At the same time, they pointed out some difficulties and advantages in the activities of community agricultural extension groups; proposed tasks and solutions to improve the capacity of community agricultural extension groups in collective economy, cooperative development, market knowledge, production linkage, value chain, digital transformation, application of information technology in production, etc.
