Innovation in agricultural extension work according to agricultural economic thinking is an inevitable requirement, contributing to the intellectualization of farmers, promoting green production and sustainable development.

In the context of Vietnam's agriculture strongly transforming towards green growth, emission reduction and sustainable development, the agricultural extension system is identified as the core force to put the Party and State's policies into practice, contributing to the intellectualization of farmers, promoting the agricultural economy and building modern and civilized rural areas.

Intellectualizing farmers associated with green development

Implementing the Central Resolutions on agricultural development, science and technology, innovation and private economy, the National Agricultural Extension Center identified comprehensive innovation in agricultural extension work as an urgent requirement. If in the past agricultural extension mainly focused on technology transfer, now it must become an effective bridge between scientists, businesses, cooperatives and farmers, helping farmers master knowledge, markets and technology.

Agricultural extension not only guides farming but also accompanies farmers, improves commodity production capacity, manages value chains, proactively responds to climate change and integrates into international markets. Agricultural economic thinking becomes the foundation for repositioning the role of agricultural extension in the digital age.

Agricultural extension innovation is closely linked to the task of intellectualizing farmers, helping farmers not only know techniques but also understand economics, management and markets. Training and coaching activities have shifted from teaching techniques to training in production and business, helping farmers master the value chain from production to consumption, towards a model of professional, creative and sustainable farmers.

In addition, agricultural extension must become the core in connecting subjects of the agricultural value chain, promoting production and consumption linkages, spreading effective models, mobilizing social resources for green agricultural development, reducing emissions and protecting the ecological environment.

In the coming time, the National Agricultural Extension Center has identified four breakthrough directions in agricultural extension work: Strengthening the capacity of the agricultural extension system at all levels in the direction of streamlining, efficiency, and linking responsibility to local realities. Decentralizing and delegating power along with improving implementation capacity. Promoting coordination mechanisms between state agricultural extension, enterprises and communities along the industry chain.

In addition, it is necessary to innovate the content and methods of operation, shifting the focus from technical support to consulting on the development of green and sustainable agricultural production and business. Agricultural extension programs must be associated with vocational training, OCOP product development, agricultural tourism, urban agriculture and multimedia and multilingual communication to reach people in remote areas.

Promoting digital transformation in agricultural extension work. The National Agricultural Extension Center is building a digital agricultural extension platform that integrates data on growing areas, electronic diaries, traceability, and connects experts - farmers - businesses. Applying artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in forecasting pests, weather, prices, and supporting production decisions.

Finally, strongly socialize agricultural extension work, mobilize enterprises, cooperatives, scientists, and socio-political organizations to participate. Promote public-private partnership (PPP) in training, model demonstration, and provision of agricultural extension services; develop the "farmers helping farmers" movement, encourage knowledge sharing, and spread community initiatives.

Knowledge bridge for modern agriculture

Agricultural extension work needs to have a synchronous mechanism and policy to develop sustainably. The review and amendment of legal documents, remuneration regimes, recruitment and training of agricultural extension staff must be implemented vigorously, in line with the requirements of digital transformation and agricultural economic development.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continues to play a coordinating role, providing professional guidance, and connecting resources between levels and localities. Provinces and cities need to proactively allocate resources and reorganize the agricultural extension system in accordance with reality, ensuring efficiency and flexibility in supporting people and businesses.

Agricultural extension innovation is not only a professional task but also an important political requirement in implementing the Party's resolutions on agricultural, farmer and rural development. Under the comprehensive leadership of Party committees at all levels, the accompaniment of enterprises and people, the agricultural extension system will continue to promote its core role - accompanying farmers, cooperatives and enterprises in the journey of building ecological agriculture, modern rural areas and civilized farmers.
