Expectations of increased purchasing power

According to retail businesses, from April to July every year, the retail industry is expected to flourish because this is the time when many holidays take place, it is the summer season and tourism activities are in full swing. In particular, this year, the long holiday of April 30 and May 1 will be a good opportunity for retail businesses to increase revenue as people increase shopping and entertainment during the holidays.

Many supermarkets are launching promotional programs, with discounts of up to 50% to stimulate consumption during the April 30 holiday this year.

Mr. Vo Van Lot, Director of Aeon Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Dong Nai - Binh Duong, said that customer purchasing power in April increased slightly compared to the previous month. In particular, on the occasion of the recent Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, the number of visitors to Aeon Shopping Center increased significantly compared to previous weekends. This year's April 30 and May 1 holidays are long, so consumer demand is expected to increase sharply. The company has fully prepared goods and human resources to serve customers during the holidays. "During the holidays, in addition to tourism activities, many people will choose to spend time with their families visiting and shopping at shopping centers. It is expected that the number of visitors to Aeon Shopping Center in Binh Duong will increase by 20-30% compared to the April 30, 2024 holiday," said Mr. Vo Van Lot.

Mr. Duong Bao Khuong, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Binh Duong (Thu Dau Mot City), informed that since the Lunar New Year 2025, the purchasing power at the supermarket has been at an average level. The supermarket has surveyed and evaluated the market of modern and traditional distribution channels, the results show that at traditional markets and spontaneous sales points, the situation of goods of unknown origin is still common. Therefore, the supermarket focuses on clean and safe products with the expectation that during the upcoming long holiday, people will buy more clean products.

Promotional incentives

Consumer purchasing power during this year’s holiday is forecast to increase by 20-30% compared to normal days. Therefore, retailers in the province have proactively increased their inventory and extended the promotional period from 2-3 weeks before the holiday to stimulate shopping during the April 30 and May 1 holidays.

Winmart Supermarket chain launched the program "Extremely good deals - Enjoy the holiday leisurely" by discounting up to 50%, buy 1 get 1 free, and giving gifts when customers buy essential products, typical products of the holiday season such as drinks, processed foods, personal care products for tourism. In April and May, Winmart also cooperated with 2 brands Milo and Comfort to bring customers the opportunity to buy quality, reputable products at attractive prices. In addition, the WiN Membership program to save 20% when buying WinEco clean vegetables or MEATDeli meat continues to be maintained, contributing to the retail system's consumption stimulation strategy.

A representative of the Bach Hoa Xanh convenience store chain in Thu Dau Mot City said: “This year’s long 30-4 holiday, our stores have prepared a full range of food. To stimulate consumption, we have many promotional programs such as free shipping in Thu Dau Mot City, discounts, and direct gifts to customers.”

For the Co.opmart system, the implementation of strong discounts for 1,000 OCOP products (the "One Commune One Product" program) is a program in the series of activities to celebrate major holidays of Saigon Co.op (Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trade Cooperatives, the parent company of Co.opmart). After the promotion program ended, Saigon Co.op continued to launch a new promotion, lasting from April 24 to May 1, focusing on essential consumer products to serve people's shopping needs during the upcoming holidays.

Mr. Duong Bao Khuong, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Binh Duong: Currently, the prices of input materials, transportation costs, and gasoline have increased, but the supermarket is still trying to maintain prices to support people, while ensuring goods to serve shopping needs during the April 30 holiday this year.
