Forest rangers of Region IV are determined not to let the forest "catch fire"

The dry season has come, the Forest Protection Department of Region IV, Forest Protection Sub-Department of Tuyen Quang province, focuses on fire prevention and fighting solutions to protect the forests.

Forest Protection Department Region IV is managing more than 60,490 hectares of special-use, protective and production forests in 7 communes: Hoa An, Chiem Hoa, Kim Binh, Tri Phu, Kien Dai, Yen Lap and Tan My.

These are all communes with a large population of ethnic minorities, and awareness of forest fire prevention and fighting among some people is still low. Therefore, in addition to patrolling and controlling, the forest rangers of the District pay special attention to propaganda work, guiding people to comply with regulations on forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting.

Right from the beginning of the dry season, the Forest Protection Department of Region IV has directed local forest rangers to advise the People's Committees of communes and forest owners to review and consolidate 8/8 forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting plans; at the same time, guide households and individuals to develop forest fire prevention and fighting plans according to regulations.

The communes have also completed the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Forestry Development Program for the 2021-2025 period, developed working regulations, and established mobile teams to protect forests and prevent and fight forest fires.

Mr. Kim Ngoc Tuyen, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Region IV, said that the Department requires the forest protection force to coordinate with localities to strictly implement management responsibilities, strengthen inspection and supervision of forest fire prevention and fighting, clearly identify key areas to arrange forces on duty 24/7. All situations must be detected early and handled immediately, not allowing large fires to occur.

Thanks to that, from the beginning of 2025 until now, the unit has detected and promptly handled 2 violations related to forest fire prevention and fighting.

Chiem Hoa commune has been considered a bright spot for many years in forest fire prevention and control. From the implementation, the Forest Protection Department of Region IV has drawn many valuable lessons: for forest fire prevention and control plans to be effective, they must be practical, have a full legal basis and closely follow the characteristics of each area.

Before developing a plan, the locality must assess the current state of the forest, natural conditions, farming practices, weather conditions and statistics of previous fires. Thanks to that, the plan of Chiem Hoa commune is always specific to each forest, each village, easy to implement and easy to monitor.

Another key factor is to maximize the local force. With the characteristics of forests in remote areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas, the village force is an important support, helping to detect and extinguish fires early when they are still small. Along with that, the communes always maintain a duty regime during peak periods, arrange guards at key locations and promptly report when they exceed their handling capacity.

According to forecasts, from November 25 to 30, in 7/7 communes managed by the Forest Protection Department of Region IV, there is a risk of forest fires at level III to level IV - high and dangerous. Especially in old-growth forests, special-use forests, eucalyptus forests, bamboo forests... with thick layers of vegetation, easy to catch fire and flare up, spreading quickly when the weather is dry for a long time.

In this situation, local authorities, functional forces and people are advised to strictly comply with regulations, heighten vigilance and strictly implement forest fire prevention and fighting. Proactively prevent, detect early and handle promptly. This is an important factor to help protect Tuyen Quang's green forests during the dry season.
