Firstly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively coordinates with relevant agencies to review, propose amendments and improve policies related to Vietnamese people living abroad, including nationality policies. Recently, relevant agencies are considering expanding the scope of citizen identification cards to include Vietnamese people living abroad in the draft Law on Identification.
Second, we pay special attention to the work of great solidarity, mobilizing overseas Vietnamese to turn to their homeland, contributing to strengthening the great national solidarity bloc, in addition to continuing to organize annual activities connecting compatriots with the country such as Spring Homeland, Overseas Vietnamese delegation visiting Truong Sa island district and DK1 platform, attending Hung King's death anniversary, Vietnam Summer Camp...
Notably, overseas Vietnamese have increasingly participated in practical activities contributing to the protection of the country's sovereignty and islands, such as organizing activities for the country's islands and seas, and establishing clubs for Truong Sa - Hoang Sa in many countries such as France, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, etc.
Third, to effectively mobilize and promote resources of overseas Vietnamese, domestic and foreign agencies have coordinated to establish a mechanism for overseas Vietnamese to contribute opinions on major national issues.
The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese also promotes support to remove obstacles for overseas Vietnamese when they return home to invest, do business, and cooperate in science; mobilizes overseas Vietnamese to participate in introducing and consuming products and developing distribution channels for Vietnamese goods abroad.
Currently, overseas Vietnamese have 385 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than 1.7 billion USD and have contributed capital to thousands of Vietnamese enterprises, contributing to job creation, technology transfer and socio-economic development. Remittances to the country have continuously increased despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuations in the world situation. Remittances in 2022 reached 19 billion USD, an increase of 5% over the same period, putting Vietnam in the top 10 countries in the world for remittances.
Fourth, the support for overseas Vietnamese to have a solid legal status and a stable life in the host country continues to receive attention. In foreign affairs activities, the leaders of our Party and State always request the leaders of other countries to pay attention, support, and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, and work in the host country. Difficulties regarding the legal status of overseas Vietnamese in some localities are gradually being resolved or consolidated, such as Slovakia's official recognition of the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority community in this country. This is a testament to the level of development, deep integration, and affirmation of the position, prestige, and contributions of our compatriots to their second homeland, thereby contributing better to the relationship between Vietnam and the host country.
Fifth, with a deep understanding that culture is the root, mother tongue is the soul of the nation, preserving Vietnamese language and promoting national cultural identity is strongly implemented and can be said to have a breakthrough when the Project on Vietnamese Language Honor Day in the Vietnamese community abroad was approved by the Prime Minister in 2022 and actively implemented in 2023.
Sixth, information work for overseas Vietnamese has been innovated in terms of thinking, content and form, focusing on developing content on digital platforms so that overseas Vietnamese can easily access information. In addition, overseas Vietnamese reporters are also given the opportunity to return to the country to work and report, contributing to helping the community grasp accurate and objective information about the situation in the country as well as the Vietnamese community around the world.
