Marine economy - the inevitable future trend of Binh Thuan!

The workshop focused on exchanging and discussing key issues such as: Overview of the current status of sustainable marine economic development; Discussion on marine economic development based on comparative advantages of coastal provinces and cities in the Central and Southern regions.

At the workshop, experts made a number of important comments and recommendations on sustainable marine economic development for Binh Thuan province in particular and the central and southern coastal regions in general. This workshop is part of Binh Thuan province’s efforts to promote marine economic development, a sector considered to have great potential for the province’s future development.

Geographical location and marine resources advantages

Binh Thuan has a 192 km long coastline, located in the potential sea area of Vietnam, near international shipping routes. Marine resources are rich and diverse, including large reserves of seafood. Large reserves of titanium create favorable conditions for the development of mineral processing industry.

Potential for developing marine economic sectors: Binh Thuan marine tourism possesses many beautiful beaches and unique natural landscapes (Mui Ne, Ham Tien, Cam Binh, Hon Rom, Co Thach...), attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

Exploitation and processing of seafood with large fishing grounds and abundant seafood resources is the basis for developing the seafood exploitation and processing industry.

Renewable energy with great potential in wind and solar energy facilitates the development of clean energy projects.

Maritime transport and seaport services have many favorable locations for the development of transport, logistics and seaport services. The developed seaport system, including Vinh Tan international port and Phan Thiet port, creates favorable conditions for trade and freight transport.

Regarding preferential policies and investment, the State and local authorities have many preferential policies to encourage investment in marine economic sectors. Transport infrastructure and technical facilities have been invested in and upgraded, creating favorable conditions for marine economic development.

These advantages create favorable conditions for Binh Thuan to develop a comprehensive and sustainable marine economy, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province and the whole country. The assessment of the future of Binh Thuan's marine economy is well-founded and consistent with the general development trend of the Vietnam National Marine Economic Development Strategy. The marine economy is identified as one of the important pillars of the Vietnamese economy. Binh Thuan is oriented to become the marine economic center of the South Central region.

Sustainable Development Solutions

To develop Binh Thuan's marine economy sustainably, the locality needs to implement the following key solutions:

Strengthening marine resource management and developing sustainable exploitation policies: Strict regulations are needed to protect marine ecosystems and manage resource exploitation activities.

Protect the environment by implementing programs to protect and restore ecosystems such as coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds, to maintain biodiversity.

Develop sustainable tourism, invest in tourism infrastructure; improve the transportation system and tourism infrastructure, ensure safety and environmental hygiene for tourists. Encourage eco-tourism, develop tourism projects associated with environmental protection, help tourists experience and raise awareness of natural values.

Develop renewable energy by encouraging investment in renewable energy; Promote the development of wind, solar and wave energy projects to support sustainable economic development. Build power stations and related infrastructure, ensuring infrastructure is strong enough to support industrial zones and other marine economic activities.

Strengthen cooperation and training, linkage between sectors: Create a network of cooperation between government agencies, businesses and communities to develop common strategies and action plans. Train and improve skills for people in the fisheries, tourism and energy sectors so that they can actively and effectively participate in sustainable development.

Promote aquaculture, use high technology; encourage the conversion from traditional farming methods to high-tech and sustainable farming forms. Develop marine farming areas, create conditions for the development of industrial marine aquaculture areas, reduce pressure on exploitation and natural fishing. Apply effective exploitation management measures to protect aquatic resources, avoid overexploitation. Use environmentally friendly exploitation methods, minimize negative impacts on marine ecosystems. Invest in modern processing technology to create products with high added value, meeting international market demand. Develop seafood processed products with diverse types and designs, suitable for consumer tastes. Comply with international quality standards on food hygiene and safety, traceability, and quality certification. By synchronously implementing the above solutions, Binh Thuan can develop the seafood exploitation, processing and export industry in a sustainable and effective manner, contributing to the development of the local marine economy and deep integration into the world economy.
