On the morning of January 18, the Office of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Vietnam and Ha Tinh province held a workshop to report the results of a survey and study on the feasibility of the project "Prevention of desertification and climate change in coastal areas of Ha Tinh province". At the workshop, experts highly appreciated the feasibility of the project. In particular, the project will focus on ecosystem restoration and sustainable livelihoods, bringing long-term and meaningful results.

The project focuses on improving the quality of life for coastal residents through promoting livelihoods and rural development, responding to climate change. Enhancing the capacity of local communities and stakeholders to conserve natural resources sustainably. Strengthening desertification prevention and resilience to climate change. Diversifying livelihoods, changing occupations and reducing dependence on natural ecosystems.
The project to prevent desertification and climate change in coastal areas of Ha Tinh province is expected to be implemented from 2025 to 2030. The total investment of the project is more than 13.2 million USD; of which KOICA will sponsor 10 million USD, the rest is counterpart capital.
The project has four components: ecosystem restoration and coastal environmental protection; income improvement through value chains; improvement of living standards through infrastructure investment; project management. According to the assessment, when completed, the project will benefit more than 765,000 people.

Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Linh said that the project's early implementation will contribute to restoring the coastal ecosystem as well as improving people's income and lives.
Through the discussions of the KOICA expert team, it was shown that the project will have some adjustments compared to the previous proposal of Ha Tinh province to suit the reality and meet the project objectives. Ha Tinh province basically agreed with the proposed contents of the expert team.
In the coming time, relevant departments and branches will continue to review and absorb the contents of the workshop; report to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and soon have an official proposal document sent to KOICA.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his belief that with the professional and specific working style of the expert team, the project dossier will meet the requirements for submission to the relevant levels for approval.
From January 14 to 17, the KOICA expert team worked directly with the Project Management Board for Investment in Construction of Civil and Industrial Works of Ha Tinh province; conducted field surveys at project areas in Ky Phu and Ky Khang communes (Ky Anh district); Ky Ninh commune (Ky Anh town). |
