Part 2: The Party is the bond that binds us together

Việt NamViệt Nam14/08/2023

Many party members have promoted the revolutionary spirit and family tradition to teach andeducate their children and grandchildren to strive and train to join the Party, thereby contributing to building their homeland to become more and more prosperous and civilized. But more than teachings, the life stories of grandparents and parents have become examples for the younger generation to follow, voluntarily striving to join the Party, training to become good party members.

“Joining the Party is a natural thing...”

In the process of contacting families with revolutionary traditions and many generations of party members, what we are most concerned about is how these families can maintain their revolutionary traditions, especially the development of party members. The stories about the Party, about the efforts and contributions of the second and third generation of party members in these families have brought many interesting perspectives .

In his story, Mr. Bui Dung (the eldest son of Mrs. Vo Thi Dau) - former Vice President of the Khanh Hoa Province Architects Association said that when he was regrouped to the North, his father always worked far from home, then returned to the battlefield in the South in 1964. His mother worked at the Central Psychiatric Hospital 1 (located in Thuong Tin, Ha Dong) and was also very busy, so his brothers and sisters encouraged each other to study. "No one told anyone, but everyone tried hard to study so that our parents could work with peace of mind. My siblings and I all wanted to study well, so that when the country was unified, we could contribute to building our homeland," Mr. Dung shared. As for joining the Party, was there any guidance - we asked. “I joined the Party when I was nearly 40 years old. Before that, my father never reminded me to join the Party. But through conversations, I knew that he was worried about me not being a Party member, especially when my younger brother and sister-in-law were already in the ranks. One day, I realized that I needed to join the Party. My parents are veteran revolutionary cadres, I grew up, studied, and matured thanks to the care of the Party and the State, so joining the Party seemed like a natural thing,” Mr. Bui Dung shared.

Similarly, Ms. Bui Thi Hanh - former Party Secretary, former Deputy General Director of Khanh Hoa State-owned One Member Co., Ltd. said that her parents never taught or reminded her about the family's revolutionary tradition, but she herself was aware of it. “My parents and relatives on both sides of my family are examples for me to look at. I saw my mother working very hard, my father went to the battlefield in the South, I had to study hard so that my parents would not have to worry. After graduating and working, I tried my best to complete my tasks well, and then joined the Party as a natural thing. During holidays and Tet, the extended family gathered together, the elderly told stories about their revolutionary activities, which added to our love and faith in the Party. It was the example of the elders and the responsibility of a Party member that helped me overcome difficulties at work,” Ms. Hanh shared.

Like Mrs. Dau's family, Mrs. Pham Thi Xuyen's children and grandchildren are always conscious of studying and practicing to be worthy of the family tradition. Looking up at his father's portrait, Mr. Pham Pho Tho said that since childhood, he and his siblings have considered their father and mother as shining examples to follow. During their studies and work, they always told each other to try their best, and not to be discouraged even when facing difficulties. Mr. Tho's children also followed that tradition to grow up. Now, out of 15 people in Mr. Tho's extended family, 12 are party members.

Family role models

Belonging to the third generation of party members, Ms. Bui Nguyen Chau (Mrs. Dau's granddaughter) became a party member when she was just 27 years old. Even when she was young, her grandmother often told her about her grandfather's life of fighting, about her father Cam, who, when he was studying far from home, secretly submitted a volunteer application to go to B. One of the stories she told the most was that her great-grandfather was tortured to death by the French, and then the story of her grandfather's younger siblings who sacrificed their lives. She also heard many stories about her grandmother's difficult and arduous life. In particular, on the day of the North, looking at the paper, she only knew how to practice spelling. Raising a group of children who were growing up, working during the day, but every night she still tried to study to graduate from secondary school (grade 7), then became a logistics manager for the Central Psychiatric Hospital 1. “When I was young, I didn’t think much about it… But when I grew up and learned more about the country’s historical background, I understood my grandmother’s great efforts. When I had a hard time studying, I thought about her to have more motivation to overcome it,” Chau confided. And wanting to continue the family tradition, wanting to live closer to her, after graduating from the University of Law in Ho Chi Minh City, although there were many opportunities to find a job there, Chau returned to Nha Trang and worked in the provincial Court. “My father passed away early, my grandmother loved me very much but did not spoil me, on the contrary she was very strict. The day I was admitted to the Party, although she did not say it, she was very happy. Sometimes when reading the newspaper, seeing news about corruption and embezzlement, she was not happy and always said that Party members must be exemplary - as a reminder to me,” Chau expressed.

Ms. Bui Nguyen Chau always considers her grandmother Vo Thi Dau as a shining example to follow.

Ms. Pham Thu Hien - an officer of the Department of Education and Training of Nha Trang City (Mrs. Xuyen's granddaughter) also shared that it was the family tradition on both her paternal and maternal sides that urged her to strive to join the Party from a very young age. “My grandparents grew up as farmers guided by the Party. Thanks to the Party, my parents and my aunts and uncles were able to study and become officials who contributed to the country. I wish to continue that tradition, to preserve the traditional red thread of my family. I determined that joining the Party was to train and contribute, not to seek this or that position…”, Ms. Hien confided.

In the memories of young party members, grandparents not only had a simple lifestyle but were also very strict. “Every week, grandparents often gathered their children and grandchildren to teach them. If there was even a small mistake, they would severely reprimand us… Therefore, we did not dare to neglect our studies. When I grew up, I tried hard to join the Party to continue the family tradition,” confided Pham Pho Cong (Mrs. Xuyen’s grandson).

There are no complete statistics on families with 3 or 4 generations of party members during the war, after the restoration of peace and the period of national renovation and integration, but there are still many families with rich revolutionary traditions such as Mrs. Xuyen, Mrs. Dau, Mr. Than... in Khanh Hoa. Coming to these families, it is clear that the Party and Uncle Ho are always in their hearts. In addition to blood ties, the Party becomes the red thread that binds members in each family, becoming the "family tradition" for future generations to continue to maintain the revolutionary tradition, strive to practice, mature, and preserve the good traditional moral values of Vietnamese families.
