10th Grade Entrance Exam: Reducing Pressure on Students

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Nghe An has eased pressure due to a decrease of more than 5,000 candidates compared to the previous school year. However, from 2026, the number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Nghe An is expected to increase by more than 7,000 compared to 2025. To avoid pressure on candidates and maintain a stable staffing level in schools, this year most high schools in the province will maintain the same quota as in 2024, with the admission rate of many schools being over 90%.

At Huynh Thuc Khang High School in Vinh City (the school with the largest number of candidates registering for the exam with 1,560 students), the chance of admission this year is also quite high. Teacher Phan Xuan Phan, Principal of the school, said: The number of candidates taking the exam this year is equivalent to last year. However, in the previous exam, the school had 67 students admitted directly, but this year there are only 20 students. Therefore, the direct admission quota will increase, with 790 places, which means that the candidates have a higher chance of being admitted. With its own characteristics, the school not only organizes the entrance exam for the unit but also takes on the admission work for Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University for the Gifted. As usual every year, out of more than 1,500 candidates registering for the exam, about 500 will be admitted and enrolled in two specialized schools in the province. For the remaining candidates, the competition rate is not too high and the admission score ranges from 7.5 - 8 points/subject.

This is also an important basis for candidates and parents to consider when adjusting their wishes after the exam. Normally, in previous exam seasons, only candidates who registered for Huynh Thuc Khang High School changed their wishes to other schools, while the number of candidates from other exam locations transferring back was not much. Therefore, parents should base on their children's actual exam results to decide to adjust their wishes accordingly. If candidates achieve a safe score, there is no need to worry too much and should avoid changing their wishes in a massive and thoughtless manner.

Dien Chau 2 High School has 34 examination rooms with 808 candidates this year, making it the most crowded examination site in Dien Chau district. According to the approved target, the school's current admission rate is 72%, the second highest in the district and a highly competitive examination site.

Teacher Cao Thanh Tuan, Principal of Dien Chau 2 High School, said: The admission rate to the school may change after candidates complete the exam and adjust their wishes. However, like previous years, most of the applications to the school are transferred applications, but the level of fluctuation is usually not large. Therefore, if candidates do well on the exam, parents should consider carefully before adjusting their wishes to avoid losing their children's opportunities.

Many parents are concerned that the situation of massive adjustment of wishes will recur as in the previous exam season. However, due to the significant decrease in the number of candidates registering for the exam this year, many schools have high admission rates. Therefore, schools recommend that parents consider carefully and not follow the majority, in order to increase their students' chances of admission.

This year's enrollment software system has also been adjusted: Data is not updated directly to the online system, so information about the number of candidates "going - coming" (changing wishes) will be kept confidential.

Deputy Director of the Departmentof Education and Training Dao Cong Loi, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the 10th grade entrance exam, informed that in order to effectively adjust their wishes, candidates and parents need to pay attention to the following three factors: The size of the enrollment quota of the high school they intend to register for; correctly evaluate the quality of the exam papers of each subject; and the advice of teachers teaching grade 9 of junior high school.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first exam to be conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program with a new exam structure, closely following the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training , with high practicality and applicability. This year, Nghe An province has 39,130 candidates registered to take the exam at 69 public schools in the province. Candidates will take the exam at 71 exam sites with 1,664 exam rooms. Nghe An mobilized 5,670 people to work as personnel at the exam sites, of which 3,941 are invigilators and supervisors at the exam sites.
