Mr. Sau shared that he still remembers the excitement, emotion and pride when he and overseas Vietnamese in Thailand welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the Thai-Vietnamese Friendship Village in May village, Nong Yat commune, Mueang district, Nakhon Phanom province, during the official visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the Kingdom of Thailand from June 25-27, 2013.

The visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the second official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam , at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Royal Thai Government, exactly 20 years after the first visit to Thailand by General Secretary Do Muoi in 1993.

Mr. Tran Van Sau was moved to recall the welcoming ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Nakhon Phanom, which was held in the large hall in the Thai-Vietnamese Friendship Village, where the annual celebration of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday is held. A large number of overseas Vietnamese, not only those in Nakhon Phanom but also members of the General Association of Vietnamese in Thailand and overseas Vietnamese from neighboring provinces, also came to welcome the General Secretary. Everyone was moved and proud of the care and affection of the Party and State, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who was also the first high-ranking leader of Vietnam to visit Nakhon Phanom province since Thailand and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1976.

“When General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited, in addition to the warm feelings between the Party and country leaders and overseas Vietnamese in Thailand, we at the Nakhon Phanom Overseas Vietnamese Association were even more moved because the General Secretary donated 30 billion VND from Vietnam to support overseas Vietnamese, the Thai Vietnamese Association of Nakhon Phanom province in particular and the General Association of Vietnamese in Thailand in general to build the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial in May village, Nakhon Phanom province,” Mr. Tran Van Sau choked up as he shared.

The Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site in Nakhon Phanom Province began construction on March 28, 2014 and was inaugurated on Uncle Ho's birthday, May 19, 2016. This is one of three historical sites about President Ho Chi Minh in Thailand.

Mr. Tran Van Sau said that since its inauguration, the President Ho Chi Minh memorial site has welcomed a large number of visitors, including not only people of Vietnamese blood but also leaders of the Thai government and people, especially students.

“Having the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial in May village, we, the Thai people of Vietnamese origin in Nakhon Phanom province in particular and the whole of Thailand in general, are always grateful and remember the contributions of the Party, the Government and the people, especially moved to be grateful to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for bringing gifts and hearts from the country to help,” said Mr. Tran Van Sau.

On February 17 this year, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the relic site, affirming that this is a place of important historical significance and a bridge connecting the Thailand-Vietnam friendship. After Prime Minister Srettha's visit, the Thai Government approved a budget of 10 million baht (about 7 billion VND) for the restoration of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial./.
