Lai Chau overcomes consequences after rain

Heavy rains that occurred in Lai Chau province from the night of June 7 to noon on June 8 caused serious damage to property and infrastructure, although there were no casualties. Local authorities and functional forces are actively implementing measures to overcome the consequences and support people to stabilize their lives.

According to the report of the Lai Chau Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue, heavy rain has affected more than 130 households in Tam Duong, Tan Uyen, Phong Tho districts and Lai Chau city.

Tam Duong district alone had 76 flooded houses, of which 2 suffered 50-70% damage. Lai Chau city recorded more than 55 households with water entering their homes, of which 3 households had to be urgently evacuated.

Heavy rain caused landslides affecting the property of a household in Sang Thang commune, Lai Chau city.

Flooding and landslides occurred seriously in Doan Ket, Quyet Tien wards and San Thang commune of Lai Chau city; Coc Pa, Na Bo, Doan Ket villages of Ban Giang commune, Tam Duong district.

Regarding production, the whole province recorded hundreds of hectares of rice, fish ponds, and crops damaged. Lai Chau city alone suffered 65 hectares of rice, 16 hectares of fish ponds, and more than 700 livestock and poultry died.

Tam Duong district was flooded with more than 33 hectares of rice, 40 hectares of fish ponds, many areas of corn, cassava, and passion fruit.

Many places in Lai Chau city were flooded.

Landslides and subsidence occurred on many routes such as National Highway 4D, Provincial Roads 129 and 135 with the volume of landslides reaching more than 15,000m³, disrupting local traffic in localities.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Lai Chau province and localities directly went to the scene to direct the recovery work.

Local authorities mobilized local forces to coordinate with the army and police to support people in evacuating property and people to safety.

The work of dredging sewers, handling landslides and damaged canals and roads is being urgently deployed to ensure people's travel and daily life.
