Bank interest rates on December 16th: Three more banks significantly increase rates, exceeding 6%.

The deposit interest rate market on December 16th saw significant increases by LPBank, ABBank, and BaoViet Bank, with many maturities exceeding 6% per year, bringing the total number of banks adjusting rates to 21.

LPBank , ABBank, and BaoViet Bank join the interest rate race.

The deposit interest rate market on December 16, 2025, continued to be active as three more joint-stock commercial banks – Loc Phat Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Bank (LPBank), An Binh Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ABBank), and BaoViet Commercial Joint Stock Bank (BaoViet Bank) – announced interest rate increases. This move brings the total number of banks adjusting interest rates upwards since the beginning of December to 21.

LPBank saw the strongest increase across all maturities.

LPBank saw the strongest interest rate increases, applicable to all terms from 1 to 60 months. Specifically, online deposit interest rates for 1 and 2-month terms increased by 0.6%/year, reaching 4.5%/year and 4.6%/year respectively. Interest rates for 3-5 month terms increased by 0.55%/year, reaching the ceiling of 4.75%/year. Notably, interest rates for 6-11 month terms were newly listed at 6.1%/year after a 0.5%/year increase. Longer terms from 13-60 months also increased by 0.55%/year, reaching 6.2%/year, the highest deposit interest rate offered by this bank.

ABBank focuses on long-term deposits.

ABBank only adjusted interest rates upwards for longer terms, with an increase of 0.8% per year for 36, 48, and 60-month terms. Accordingly, online deposit interest rates for these terms rose to 6.1% per year, while over-the-counter rates remained at 6% per year. Interest rates for terms from 1-24 months remained unchanged, placing ABBank among the private banks with the lowest interest rates for short-term deposits.

BaoViet Bank shares increased by 0.2% across the board.

Meanwhile, BaoViet Bank uniformly increased interest rates by 0.2% per year for terms ranging from 6 to 36 months. After the adjustment, the online interest rate for a 6-month term is 5.85% per year, the 12-month term reaches 6% per year, and terms from 13-36 months are listed at 6.1% per year. Short-term rates from 1-5 months remain unchanged.

The trend of rising interest rates is spreading.

Since the beginning of December, 21 banks have increased deposit interest rates, including: Techcombank, MB, NCB, BVBank, Saigonbank, ACB, Bac A Bank, OCB, KienlongBank, Sacombank,SHB , PGBank, VIB, Vikki Bank, VCBNeo, BIDV, VPBank, PVCombank, ABBank, LPBank, and BaoViet Bank. Of these, NCB, VPBank, and Techcombank have adjusted their rates twice.
