'Non-surgical' beauty treatments attract customers during Tet

The Department of Dermatology - Skin Aesthetics, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, recorded about 1,000 people coming for examination, more than 2,000 procedures performed in the past two months, an increase of 40% compared to the same period last year.

On February 7, Dr. Dang Thi Ngoc Bich, MD, PhD, shared the above information, adding that on average there are about 20 beauty treatments per day, increasing on weekends. Of these, about 10% are overseas Vietnamese from Canada, the US, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Japan... In addition to women, many men also come to the hospital for beauty treatments to celebrate Tet.

According to Dr. Bich, most customers have a need for comprehensive and safe skin care. 10 days before Lunar New Year, Ms. Mai, 42 years old, came to get cross-linked HA injections to fill her sunken cheeks and receding chin. After 15 minutes of treatment, her old features were fuller, her face was more balanced, she was very satisfied. The needle marks on her skin were light pink but disappeared after 24 hours.

Ms. Trang, 25 years old, living in Vinh Long , came to see Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung for the final treatment in the course of armpit hair removal, armpit darkening and back acne. In the three previous treatments, her armpit hair and dark areas were treated with IPL and pico laser technology. Doctor Bich recommends going to reputable medical facilities with dermatology and cosmetic skin care specialists for safe beauty treatments. Rushing to beautify yourself with mixed creams, instant whitening creams, peeling with medicinal wine or going to unlicensed facilities... can cause adverse effects, damage the skin, affect the spring and Tet holiday, and cost money.

Dr. Bich said that currently, skin rejuvenation techniques, wrinkle removal using filler, botox, electrophoresis, IPL... can beautify quickly. Some techniques only need to be performed in two days with a total time of 90 minutes, but it is best to do it 1-2 weeks before Tet.

Specifically, iontophoresis and meso injection (micro-injection) with essences such as vitamin C, glutathione, HA... help smooth, plump, brighten skin, reduce dark spots, and reduce dryness. The effect of iontophoresis can be seen immediately after the first time but the effect is short, about 7-10 days. The effect of meso injection can be seen within a few days to a week after the first injection. Depending on the type of nutrients and skin condition, a course of treatment requires 2-5 injections, each 2-4 weeks apart.

Filler injections are effective immediately, with steady improvement over several weeks. Botox injections will take effect after a few days and reach their maximum effect after two weeks. If Botox is used to slim the jaw or treat a gummy smile, it will take at least two weeks for the masseter muscles to begin to shrink and about four weeks for a clearly slimmed jaw to be seen.

Problems such as wrinkles, melasma, freckles, inflammation and redness caused by acne, dark spots, and hair removal can be partially improved after the first treatment with IPL. However, to completely treat each skin condition, each treatment will have a different number of irradiation sessions.

According to Dr. Dung, for more difficult skin problems, patients need to start treatment 2-8 weeks before Tet. For example, patients with severe acne, many acne scars, post-inflammatory acne scars need to completely treat acne, then use laser or IPL, and iontophoresis to treat acne complications.

In case of deep melasma, difficult to treat melasma, it takes longer and requires a combination of methods such as meso injection, pico laser. After laser or peel treatment (chemical skin resurfacing), patients need to take care of their skin and avoid the sun carefully to help the skin recover.

To treat acne scars or skin rejuvenation with microneedling, the patient needs 7-10 days for the body to activate the healing response (form new blood vessels, increase collagen and elastin) and the skin to fully recover. Normally, microneedling scar treatment needs to be performed 2-5 times, about a month apart, depending on the severity of the scar.

Face lifting, skin tightening, double chin removal, wrinkle removal, skin rejuvenation with SUPERB technology (using parallel ultrasound beams) or HIFU (using high-convergence ultrasound) can improve the skin immediately after treatment. The effect of face lifting and double chin removal is more obvious after 2-4 weeks and the effect continues to increase gradually, reaching its peak after 8-12 weeks and lasting 6-12 months depending on each person's constitution (age, lifestyle, skin care...).
