Need to pay attention to greening Prenn Pass

Dreamy Da Lat - a place long known as the land of thousands of flowers, the land of pine trees and an ideal destination in the hearts of tourists nationwide. In particular, Prenn Pass is not only a vital traffic route, but also a "gateway to the soul" leading to the heart of Da Lat, so it is in great need of being greened to create a landscape.

Prenn Pass has many sections with high, steep slopes that are quite dangerous but have not been reinforced or covered with greenery.

Emotional bass note

However, behind its inherent beauty, Prenn Pass is facing a reality that worries many locals and tourists. The upgrading and expansion process in recent years, although bringing conveniences in terms of transportation, seems to have unintentionally "taken away" the green floral shirt that made Da Lat's brand. The dry concrete slopes and bare patches of land are gradually replacing the green pine rows and diverse vegetation, making many people feel regretful.

Are we unintentionally forgetting the need to restore the natural beauty and charm of Prenn Pass after upgrading and expanding it?

“I remember clearly the afternoons, when the golden sunlight like honey spread over the pine rows, the thin mist drifted across the pass. Prenn Pass used to be green, cool, beautiful and romantic like a picture bestowed by nature. Every time we reached the foot of the pass, we felt the cool air covering our skin, seeping into our chests and overwhelming our vision. The strongest impression at that time was the extremely strong change in both emotions and vision when touching the gateway to Da Lat. And that feeling made tourists like us burst into tears, never to be forgotten”, Mr. Le Hung, an artist and tourist from Ho Chi Minh City shared.

The strong impression of a green, fresh mountain pass full of wildflowers has been deeply ingrained in the minds of many tourists. However, now, when passing through Prenn Pass, many people cannot help but feel sad. The roads are more beautiful and safer, but on both sides of the road are cold, gray-white concrete walls. The steep, precarious slopes of the earthen slopes seem to be still unfinished, making the landscape at the gateway to Da Lat lack vitality.

We cannot deny the benefits that the upgrading and expansion of Prenn Pass brings. More convenient and safer traffic are necessary conditions for economic development, tourism and modern urban tourism. However, ignoring aesthetic and environmental factors, especially on the important gateway road, unintentionally turns the joy of development into the concern of the people.

Is it possible to find a harmonious solution to both develop infrastructure and preserve the natural beauty of Prenn Pass?

Expected "gateway to the soul" leading to the heart of Dalat

“Greening Prenn Pass is not only about planting more trees on both sides of the road, but also about creating a green, clean, beautiful space in harmony with nature. It is about covering the concrete slopes with native climbing plants, creating unique and impressive patches of flowers and trees. On steep slopes that are somewhat dangerous because rocks and soil can slide down to the road, green patches are created to ensure safety and create highlights. Or building resting areas, sightseeing areas full of flowers and strange grasses so that visitors can enjoy the beauty of the gateway road to the fullest,” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, a construction engineer.

Furthermore, greening the Prenn Pass is also a practical action to protect the environment, minimize the impact of climate change, and prevent landslides on the slopes of the earth, which are currently very dangerous and often landslides during the rainy season. A green Prenn Pass right at the gateway to Da Lat is also a greeting and an introduction to tourists from all over the country about a tourist land worth visiting and enjoying.

“I hope that the greening of Prenn Pass will soon be launched by the government and relevant agencies and this will certainly receive support and contributions from all walks of life and tourists. The relevant agencies need to have specific policies and plans to call for, encourage and facilitate individuals and organizations to participate in the greening of Prenn Pass,” said Mr. Pham Anh Dung, a photography artist.

Prenn Pass is not only a mountain pass, but also a part of the image of Da Lat in particular and Lam Dong province in general. People and tourists expect that the government will pay attention to launching a campaign to weave a beautiful new coat for this mountain pass so that Prenn Pass will forever be the "gateway to the soul" leading to the heart of Da Lat.
