With nearly 3 decades in the profession, Mr. Long not only brings the light of cinema to the people at the grassroots level but also contributes to preserving and spreading cultural values and solidarity in the community.
Bringing cinema to the grassroots
Born in the countryside of Tay Ky (formerly Hai Duong province, now Hai Phong city), Dong Nai is where Mr. Nguyen Duc Long has spent most of his career. In 1997, when the Film Distribution and Screening Center of Binh Phuoc province (formerly) was established, he was one of the first staff to join the mobile film projection team. In 2019, the unit was merged into the Binh Phuoc Cultural - Cinema Center (now Dong Nai Cultural - Cinema Center), Mr. Long continued to accompany his colleagues on the journey of bringing cinema to all classes of people.
Mr. Long recalls: 28 years ago, when the infrastructure was still lacking and the internet was not yet developed, each night of mobile movie screenings was a real “festival” for the people. Everyone brought mats and chairs, eagerly waiting to watch each film, as joyful as celebrating Tet.
“Nowadays, technology is developing, entertainment forms are more diverse, the number of people watching mobile movies has decreased, but Mobile Movie Team No. 6 still persists in the area, constantly innovating the way of doing things. Before, during and after each movie screening, the team organizes cultural exchanges and karaoke to create a lively and close atmosphere,” Mr. Long confided.
From July 1, 2025 to present, the team has maintained 27 screenings per month. The screening locations of Mobile Film Screening Team No. 6 are mainly located along Highway 13 from Thien Hung, Tan Tien, Hung Phuoc communes to Minh Hung, Chon Thanh, Nha Bich, Loc Ninh communes and localities along Highway 14. These are localities with a large population of ethnic minorities and are also border areas, where the cultural and spiritual life of the people is still lacking.
“Mobile Cinema Team No. 6 currently has 3 members. Each trip of my brother is a journey to bring cinema, culture and official propaganda information to the people at the grassroots level. The distance is long, the weather is unpredictable, sometimes we have to travel hundreds of kilometers, but just seeing the people happy, hearing the children's cheers when the screen is lit, we feel all the hardship is worth it" - Mr. Long shared, his eyes shining with pride.
Not only stopping at screening movies, Mr. Long also proactively innovated propaganda methods by creating video clips, art programs broadcast on digital platforms and websites of units and localities; coordinating propaganda through running mobile loudspeakers. From newsreels, documentaries, to feature films, animations, etc., all were carefully selected by him and the members of Mobile Film Screening Team No. 6, suitable for each region and each target group.
Director of Dong Nai Cultural - Cinema Center Ton Thi Thanh Tinh said: "Mr. Nguyen Duc Long is an exemplary team leader, always dedicated to his profession and has a high sense of responsibility in his work. He is a typical example in the movement to build a grassroots cultural life, contributing to spreading humanistic values, bringing cinema closer to the people, especially in remote and isolated areas."
Keeping the passion for the profession, spreading cultural values
Nearly 30 years in the profession is also the same amount of time Mr. Nguyen Duc Long has strived to overcome difficulties to "keep the fire" of passion for mobile film screening, bring cinema to the grassroots, sow the seeds of culture, spread knowledge and connect the community. Although the job requires constant movement, leaving early and returning late, Mr. Long has always maintained a sense of responsibility, dedication and creativity. In him, colleagues always see an exemplary role model in work, always ready to "get to work", share experiences with young people, and build a united and disciplined collective.
That sense of responsibility and dynamism has helped Mr. Long achieve the title of Emulation Fighter for many consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2024), and be awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee... This is a worthy recognition for his persistent, quiet but meaningful contributions to propaganda work, improving the spiritual life of the people.
When asked what has kept him involved in the mobile cinema profession for the past several decades, Mr. Long smiled and shared: “I think that each frame I bring to people is not only a film but also the light of knowledge, faith and culture. Although technology is increasingly developing, I believe that mobile cinema still has its own place, because there is humanity, connection and community joy.”
Mr. Nguyen Duc Long was born in 1979 and currently lives in Binh Long ward, Dong Nai province. Most recently, he was commended by the Dong Nai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for his outstanding achievements in the Patriotic Emulation Movement for the period 2020-2025.
Talking about the plan in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Duc Long said: Mobile Film Screening Team No. 6 will continue to innovate the form of propaganda, improve the quality of content, focus on applying digital technology in film screening activities and information dissemination. In addition, the team will closely coordinate with localities, schools, and units to organize thematic film screenings, associated with major holidays, important political and cultural events of the country and Dong Nai province. Thereby, helping people better understand the Party's policies, the State's policies and laws, and strengthening the great national unity bloc.
