Growth of the crop industry through each project

Through each project implemented in the 2021 - 2025 period, Lam Dong's crop cultivation industry has shifted towards increasing added value, promoting the advantages of each ecological region associated with consumption and export markets.

The entire Lam Dong province has effectively implemented 18 advanced crop cultivation projects.
The entire province has effectively implemented 18 advanced crop cultivation projects.

18 projects across 3 ecological zones

According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, out of 18 crop cultivation projects in the 2021-2025 period, Lam Dong province, known for its thousands of flowers, has the highest number of projects, with 9. Notably, the project on restructuring and developing a comprehensive, sustainable, and modern agricultural sector has developed 72,100 hectares of high-tech agriculture and approximately 1,000 hectares of smart agriculture. As a result, the area of inefficient production is estimated to decrease to 17,200 hectares by 2025. The average production value per unit area is projected to increase from 285 million VND/ha in 2024 to 300 million VND/ha in 2025. Specifically, during the 2022-2025 period, the coffee replanting and grafting project achieved a total area of 33,094.3 hectares, equivalent to 112.5% of the plan, with an average yield of 3.5 tons/ha.

With the project to develop the production, processing, and consumption of medicinal herbs on agricultural land, the area is estimated to reach 1,013 hectares, exceeding the target of 1,000 hectares, not including small-scale, scattered production areas under the forest canopy. Notably, 13 supply chains have been established, attracting 396 households to participate, with a total annual consumption of nearly 21,000 tons of medicinal herbs; and 89 OCOP products have been branded with 3-4 star ratings…

Next, the Lam Dong region, with its five projects, including the project on developing a modern, sustainable, and high-value-added agricultural sector, has developed 30,570 hectares applying high technology in new varieties, water-saving irrigation, and organic production, accounting for 9% of the total agricultural land area. Many key agricultural products have been certified, such as: GlobalGAP dragon fruit (453 ha); VietGAP dragon fruit (8,541 ha); VietGAP durian (77.5 ha); VietGAP vegetables, melons, and mangoes (100 ha). The value of agricultural products increased from over 123.3 million VND/ha in 2021 to 146 million VND/ha in 2025. In addition, the project on developing high-quality commercial rice production areas by 2025 aims to achieve a total planted area of 132,732 ha with an average yield of 6.3 tons/ha. Of this, the area of rice production under the value chain reached 17,145 hectares, forming large rice fields covering over 5,000 hectares. The remaining four projects are being implemented in the Lam Dong mountainous region during the 2021-2025 period. Notably, the project on safe and sustainable agricultural production, meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic, UTZ, and Rainforest standards, covers nearly 35,174 hectares; the project on replanting and grafting coffee, covering a total area of nearly 12,550 hectares. In addition, the project on integrated crop health management has resulted in no widespread pest outbreaks in the area.

Restructuring crop production comprehensively.

According to the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in each project implemented during the 2021-2025 period, the area and production of key crops have been developed, including: rice (170,767 hectares, nearly 1.1 million tons); vegetables (101,275 hectares, nearly 3.5 million tons); flowers (11,481 hectares, 4.6 billion stems); coffee (323,241 hectares, over 1 million tons); pepper (37,191 hectares, over 85,000 tons); and fruit trees (115,392 hectares, nearly 1.3 million tons)... However, Mr. Tran Quang Duy, Deputy Head of the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, stated that many farming models still overuse chemicals and inorganic fertilizers, leading to emissions accounting for up to 70% of agricultural production, primarily in rice cultivation. To achieve the goal of net emissions of "zero" by 2050, the agricultural sector in general, and the crop production sector in Lam Dong province in particular, needs to implement a comprehensive set of solutions to transform farming methods, improve production efficiency, protect the environment, and especially develop ecological and circular agriculture as a fundamental, urgent, and long-term priority.

With the immediate goal of comprehensively restructuring crop production over the next five years, the entire province will review and re-identify concentrated specialized farming areas and high-tech production zones down to the commune level, linking them with the development of sustainable and efficient regional agricultural product consumption models. Simultaneously, research will be conducted on the production and import of new crop varieties with high yields, good quality, pest and disease resistance, and adaptability to climate change.

Furthermore, selecting and transferring technologies suitable to the level of access and application of producers in each region is crucial for achieving maximum efficiency. This includes focusing on water-saving irrigation technology in industrial and fruit crop production areas; greenhouse and net house technology; IoT technology for high-end vegetables and flowers; and the application of digital transformation in production monitoring, planting area logs, and traceability.
