18 projects in 3 ecological regions
According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the 18 crop cultivation projects in the period of 2021 - 2025, the Lam Dong area of thousands of flowers has implemented the largest number with 9 projects. Standing out with the project of Restructuring and developing the agricultural sector comprehensively, sustainably and modernly, has developed the area of high-tech agriculture to 72,100 hectares, smart agriculture about 1,000 hectares. Thereby, the area of ineffective production is estimated to decrease to 17,200 hectares in 2025. The average production value per unit area will increase from 285 million VND/ha in 2024 to 300 million VND/ha in 2025. In the period of 2022 - 2025 alone, the Coffee Replanting and Grafting Project will reach a total area of 33,094.3 ha, equivalent to 112.5% of the plan, with an average yield of 3.5 tons/ha.
With the project of Developing production, processing and consumption of medicinal herbs on agricultural land, it is estimated to reach 1,013 hectares, exceeding the target of 1,000 hectares, not to mention the small-scale production area, scattered under the forest canopy. In particular, 13 linkage chains have been built, attracting 396 households to participate, with a total annual consumption output of nearly 21,000 tons of medicinal herbs; building brands for 89 OCOP products ranked 3-4 stars...
Next, the Lam Dong blue sea area with 5 projects, of which the project on Developing modern, sustainable, high-value-added agriculture has developed 30,570 hectares applying high technology in new varieties, water-saving irrigation, organic production, accounting for 9% of the total agricultural production land area. Many key agricultural products have been certified such as: GlobalGAP dragon fruit (453 hectares); VietGAP dragon fruit (8,541 hectares); VietGAP durian (77.5 hectares); VietGAP vegetables, melons, mangoes (100 hectares). The value of agricultural products increased from more than 123.3 million VND/ha in 2021 to 146 million VND/ha in 2025. In addition, the project on Developing high-quality commercial rice production areas by 2025 reached a total planting area of 132,732 hectares, with an average yield of 6.3 tons/ha. Of which, the rice production area according to the chain linkage reached 17,145 hectares, forming large rice fields of over 5,000 hectares. The remaining 4 projects are implemented in the Lam Dong region in the period of 2021 - 2025, of which, notably the project on Safe and Sustainable Agricultural Production, meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic, UTZ, Rainforest standards of nearly 35,174 hectares; the project on Replanting and Grafting Coffee with a total area of nearly 12,550 hectares. In addition, the project on Integrated Health Management of Key Crops resulted in no widespread outbreak of pests in the area.
Comprehensive restructuring of cultivation
According to the assessment of Lam Dong Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in each project implemented in the period of 2021 - 2025, the area and output of key crops have been developed such as: rice (170,767 hectares, nearly 1.1 million tons); vegetables (101,275 hectares, nearly 3.5 million tons); flowers (11,481 hectares, 4.6 billion branches); coffee (323,241 hectares, more than 1 million tons); pepper (37,191 hectares, more than 85,000 tons); fruit trees (115,392 hectares, nearly 1.3 million tons)... However, Mr. Tran Quang Duy - Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection said that many farming models still abuse chemicals and inorganic fertilizers, leading to emissions accounting for up to 70% in the agricultural production sector, mainly rice cultivation. To achieve the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the agricultural sector in general and the crop cultivation sector of Lam Dong province in particular need to synchronously deploy solutions to transform farming methods, improve production efficiency, protect the environment, especially develop ecological agriculture and circular agriculture in a fundamental, urgent and long-term manner.
With the immediate goal of comprehensively restructuring cultivation in the next 5 years, the whole province will review and redefine concentrated specialized areas and high-tech production areas for each commune, associated with building models of linking agricultural product consumption areas in a sustainable and effective chain. At the same time, research and production will be conducted, and new crop varieties with high yield, good quality, resistance to pests and diseases and adaptation to climate change will be imported.
In addition, select and transfer technology types suitable to the level of access and application of producers in each region to achieve the highest efficiency, focusing on water-saving irrigation technology in industrial crop and fruit tree production areas; greenhouses, net houses, IoT technology for high-quality vegetables and flowers; apply digital transformation in production monitoring, planting area logs, traceability...
