Lam Dong: Proposal to complete Lien Khuong airport repair before September 2, 2026 holiday

On the afternoon of November 25, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, together with relevant departments, branches and localities, worked with Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and Lien Khuong International Airport on the implementation of the project to repair the runway and taxiway - Lien Khuong International Airport (Duc Trong commune).

According to the representative of ACV, the project investor, the project to repair runways and taxiways at Lien Khuong International Airport has a total investment value of more than 966,842 billion VND. The project's scale includes repairing existing runway 09-27; repairing taxiways E1, E2, and parallel taxiways; drainage system; technical infrastructure system, equipment to ensure flight operations; construction of equipment foundations to serve flight operations; other synchronous works such as painting signals according to regulations, construction of service roads, fences, guard booths, etc. to serve the construction.

According to the investor, it is expected that from March 4, 2026, the project will start construction and start closing Lien Khuong airport. By July 31, 2026, the construction will be completed for ACV to conduct calibration flights and the airport will reopen from September 1, 2026. The ACV representative also said that after several time adjustments, the period from March to August is chosen to enter the dry season, favorable for project construction. At the same time, the province is not affected by floods and landslides at this time, so it is also favorable for vehicles traveling by road, replacing passenger and cargo transportation activities while the airport is closed.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that this is a large-scale, large-budget project that plays an important role in the socio-economic development of Lam Dong. Therefore, he requested relevant units to focus on construction within 4 months, and at the same time requested ACV to review and try to complete it as soon as possible. To facilitate the construction, Mr. Hai also requested the investor to immediately deploy preparations for documents, supervision consultancy, materials and equipment so that after completing the procedures, construction can be started as soon as possible. Thereby, Lien Khuong airport can be reopened before August 25, 2026 to prepare for the September 2 holiday, when the demand for cargo and passenger transport is expected to increase.

In addition, Mr. Hai also assigned relevant departments, branches and localities to support and coordinate with ACV and Lien Khuong International Airport to deploy related work, ensure safety, security and order to speed up the project as much as possible to complete it as soon as possible according to the set schedule.
