Lam Dong: Temporarily opened a road through Mimosa Pass, restoring traffic after 10 days of paralysis due to landslides

(Chinhphu.vn) - A temporary road along the foot of the mountain was opened through the landslide on Mimosa Pass (National Highway 20) and has allowed traffic to resume, after more than 10 days of being cut off due to the incident.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Construction, the temporary route is only open in favorable weather conditions. Since the main construction is still under construction, drivers are advised to avoid going through the pass at night, during heavy rain or when thick fog reduces visibility. When passing through the construction area, vehicles must reduce speed, comply with the sign system and traffic flow plan.

Mimosa Pass is about 11km long, one of the three southern gateways to Da Lat, along with Prenn and Sacom (trucks are prohibited). Late on November 19, a serious landslide occurred in this area, sweeping away the entire asphalt road, creating a slide 70m long and nearly 40m deep. Rocks and soil fell from above, dragging trees along, forming a slide hundreds of meters down the negative slope.

To restore traffic, the construction unit has initially opened a temporary 8m wide road at the foot of the mountain, paved with asphalt and marked with two lanes. In the landslide area, iron fences have been erected to ensure the safety of passing vehicles.

As a long-term solution, Project Management Board 85 proposed building a two-lane bridge over the landslide site, with a total investment of about 30 billion VND. The project is an emergency and is expected to be completed in 4 months.
