The two countries have achieved many important achievements since the normalization of relations thanks to the efforts and goodwill of both sides. The Ambassador stated that since returning to work in Vietnam, he has always been deeply impressed by the development of Vietnam and the strong development in the relationship and cooperation between the two countries in many different fields, thereby bringing benefits to the people and the two countries.
The ambassador said that the high-level phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden lasted longer than expected, which proves that the two sides still have much to discuss. US President Joe Biden highly values the relationship and cooperation with Vietnam and considers developing this relationship an important task. At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong stated that the relationship between Vietnam and the United States has made great strides after 28 years of normalization, with many cooperations in all fields, including strategic ones. The results achieved in the relationship between the two countries are in line with the aspirations of the people of the two countries, promoted on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of each country, mutual understanding, equal cooperation, mutual benefit and in the spirit of putting the past behind and looking towards the future...
The President stated that the high-level phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden left important messages, deepening and further strengthening the relationship between the two countries in the future. The President affirmed that further developing the bilateral relationship is the desire of both sides. At the same time, he hoped to welcome US President Joe Biden to visit Vietnam, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership.
President Vo Van Thuong suggested that in the coming time, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper should pay attention to promoting a number of work contents, contributing to further deepening the relationship and cooperation between the two countries. In particular, continuing to exchange and contact high-level delegations; promoting friendly cooperation between localities of the two countries; increasing the number of US businesses visiting and seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam; developing defense and security cooperation... In addition, it is necessary to continue expanding cooperation in education and training because this is a very important content in the relationship between the two countries in the future.
President Vo Van Thuong and Ambassador Marc E. Knapper agreed to continue to pay attention to promoting humanitarian programs; overcoming the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin; developing cooperation in education, training and other important fields... In addition, they will support the rule of international law in the region and resolve disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially UNCLOS 1982./.
