According to the regulations on military recruitment in 2024, candidates who want to apply for admission to military universities and colleges must pass the preliminary selection and meet the standards prescribed by the Ministry of National Defense (non-military youth must pass the preliminary selection at the Military Recruitment Board at the district, town, city level under the province, active soldiers must pass the preliminary selection at the Military Recruitment Board at the regimental level and equivalent).

Candidates are only allowed to apply for one military school. During the application period, candidates are allowed to adjust their application to other military schools, without having to transfer their application to the school they are applying for.

In 2024, in addition to the two admission methods implemented in 2023: direct admission, priority admission, admission of excellent high school students and admission based on high school graduation exam results, military schools will have 2 new admission methods.

First: Admission based on high school transcripts, not exceeding 10% of the target, the condition is that the overall score of each year of high school is 7.0 or higher and the overall score of the subjects in the school's admission combination each school year is 7.5 or higher.

As for the Military Technical Academy and the Military Medical Academy, the school leaders reported and proposed to the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense about using this method for admission.

Second: Admission based on the results of the competency assessment exam organized by domestic universities does not exceed 20% of the target for candidates. Specifically, admission is given to candidates with the competency assessment exam results of Hanoi National University from 75 points or higher (maximum score is 150 points), with the competency assessment exam results of Ho Chi Minh City National University from 600 points or higher (maximum score is 1,200 points).

The Ministry of National Defense also noted that candidates who have submitted their preliminary application can still adjust their application wishes according to the following school groups:

- Group 1, academies: Logistics, Navy, Border Guard, Air Defense - Air Force (command and staff system) and officer schools: Army 1, Army 2, Politics, Special Forces, Artillery, Armored, Chemical, Information, Engineering.

- Group 2, academies: Military Engineering, Military Medicine, Military Science.

Time and method for adjusting admission application wishes shall comply with regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of National Defense in 2024.

The Military Admissions Board also noted that military academies and schools only consider candidates who have passed the preliminary selection and meet the standards set by the Ministry of National Defense for admission to military universities and colleges.

Candidates must register their first choice (highest choice) at the school that submitted their preliminary application or the group of schools where candidates can adjust their admission choice (first choice) according to the school's admission combination.
