Mutual love

Implementing the campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in conjunction with the humanitarian month of 2025, the Red Cross Society at all levels in the city reviewed and made a list of humanitarian addresses in need of support to mobilize resources to join hands to help. At the end of March 2025, responding to the emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the Red Cross Society of Lien Chieu district started repairing houses for households in difficult circumstances.

Mr. Luong Hai (group 53, Hoa Hiep Nam ward) is a particularly poor household, old and weak, no longer able to work. The level 4 house built many years ago is now degraded, the brick walls are cracked, the corrugated iron roof is leaking. In the spirit of mutual love, the District Red Cross Society mobilized Mr. Tran Dinh Nam, a member of the Hoa Minh Ward Red Cross Society (Lien Chieu district) to support 30 million VND to help Mr. Hai repair the house to ensure it is solid and sturdy.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho (Thanh Khe Dong Ward, Thanh Khe District) is a near-poor household, living alone, and unable to work due to the after-effects of a stroke. Understanding Mr. Tho's situation and wishes, the City Red Cross Society mobilized Mr. Tran Dinh Nam to support an electric wheelchair worth 12 million VND to help Mr. Tho have a means of transportation and sell lottery tickets to earn income to cover his living expenses.

According to the representative of the City Red Cross Society, in the first quarter of 2025, all levels of the society mobilized units, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to promptly support 289 difficult circumstances, with a total budget of more than 780 million VND. Thereby, helping to connect kind hearts to the less fortunate, adding motivation for the disadvantaged to overcome difficulties and rise up in life.

Community health care

Implementing the cooperation program on community health care, during the humanitarian month of 2025, the City Red Cross Association coordinated with hospitals to organize many medical examinations and health consultations for people. In early April 2025, the City Red Cross Association coordinated with Hospital 199, the Ministry of Public Security and Saigon Song Han Eye Hospital to examine and provide health consultations for 200 disadvantaged elderly people, policy families, and people with revolutionary contributions in Thanh Khe Tay ward (Thanh Khe district). Through medical examination, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (group 24) was discovered by the doctor to have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

After consulting with a doctor about nutrition and exercise, Ms. Lien adjusted her diet to fight off the disease. Similarly, Mr. Le Ba Truyen (Group 15, Thanh Khe Tay Ward) discovered that he had vestibular disorders and osteoporosis, and was given supplements and calcium to take. “Elderly people in difficult circumstances often do not go for general health check-ups because they are afraid of the cost. This free health check-up program is very practical, giving us the opportunity to be examined and advised on diet and exercise to improve our health,” Mr. Truyen said.

The Son Tra District Red Cross Society has just coordinated with Saigon Song Han Eye Hospital to organize eye examination and consultation for 300 people in Nai Hien Dong Ward. People were screened, consulted about eye diseases, and given free medicine and vitamins to detect eye diseases early for timely treatment.

Chairwoman of the City Red Cross Society Le Thi Nhu Hong said that, implementing the community health care coordination program, in 2024, the City Association coordinated with Saigon Song Han Eye Hospital to organize 37 examinations, consultations, and free medicine distribution for more than 5,000 people, free surgery for 290 people in difficult circumstances, and gave 100 gifts to disadvantaged people, with a total value of more than 1.9 billion VND.

In 2025, Saigon Song Han Eye Hospital will continue to support the City Association with 10,000 free eye examinations and 120 free cataract surgeries for patients in difficult circumstances, with a total value of 1 billion VND, contributing to caring for and improving community health, especially for the disadvantaged and vulnerable.

Humanitarian Month 2025 will be implemented from March 1 to May 31. The city's Red Cross Associations at all levels aim to mobilize VND5 billion to carry out humanitarian and charitable activities. Of which, 1,000 humanitarian addresses will be supported; 5 Red Cross houses will be built; 10 poor and disadvantaged households will be supported with a livelihood of VND15 million/household; 10,000 free meals will be organized for disadvantaged people; 2,000 people will be mobilized to donate blood and 100 people will register to donate tissues and organs.
