Located about 2km northwest of the national scenic spot Ganh Da Dia, Phu Hanh village, An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district ( Phu Yen ) is called by many people as "the village of stone" because there are many structures made of stone.
The structures are familiar to the locals but strange and attractive to tourists. From the fences around the houses, the paths to the cattle pens… everything is made of stacked stones.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ky (81 years old, a resident of Phu Hanh village) said that decades ago, there were rocks everywhere in the village and because of difficult conditions, people used rocks for construction.
“These stones are arranged very skillfully and without any adhesive, yet they are very sturdy. They are cool in the summer and warm in the winter, suitable for living and making livestock pens. In the village, there are also some ancient wells made of these stones, which are still in use today, and the water is very clear and cool,” said Ms. Ky.
Located in Phu Hanh village, Co Thach hill is a place that many tourists come to visit and check-in. The hill has an area of about 42 hectares, with flat terrain, not as steep as the surrounding hills.
This place not only possesses beautiful natural scenery, but also preserves many ancient vestiges such as the system of walls, stone roads, and rows of ancient duoi trees planted to form paths.
At Co Thach hill, there is also Ca Map cape, which is surrounded by the sea on three sides with a view of Hon Yen, Xuan Dai bay and Co Thach hill beach. Many tourists stop here to sightsee, take pictures or camp…
Mr. Vo Song Phi - head of the Phu Hanh village people's committee - said that currently, many people in the locality still preserve the way of stacking stones. The stones are collected on the hills and especially do not use any adhesives, only relying on the gravity of the stones to stack into houses, barns, some of which are over 100 years old and create a unique feature for the village.
“Many tourists coming to Ganh Da Dia have stopped by the village to visit and explore the culture here. The villagers are also very happy that the locality is known to many people,” said Mr. Phi.
