Late December. The cold of the West is not enough to make people shiver, but it is enough to make people's hearts stop and slow down. I sit in front of the computer screen, my eyes following each frame, each line of text that is gradually shaping the appearance of a Spring newspaper page. Outside, the streets are filled with the Tet atmosphere, the flower market is bustling. And here, in the small room of the layout department, we are also welcoming Spring in our own way: quietly, carefully, seriously and lovingly with each line of text, each color.
Layout - people often say it is a "technical" job, but for me, it is where the professional conveys his emotions in the quietest and most subtle way. Each page, each border, each color is a careful choice. Not ostentatious, not highlighting names, but each pixel, each detail contributes to cherishing the articles filled with the passion of reporters and editors. Not highlighting names, but each pixel, each small detail is a part of the big story that the newspaper tells to its readers.
Working on the Spring newspaper does not have the sound of firecrackers, nor the first cakes and jams of the year. There are only hastily printed drafts, the smell of new ink and the steady sound of the printer. But in every minute, I always feel like I am doing something very beautiful, as beautiful as spring gently knocking on the door of memory. A Spring of responsibility, of passion, and also of affection between colleagues. And so, each Spring that passes, I add a quiet milestone to mark the time that has passed in my journalism career. Being a journalist in Ben Tre , being with Dong Khoi Newspaper, is a fate, a debt. And a very simple, but sacred happiness.
Ben Tre in the days before Tet is still as peaceful as the character of the countryside people. The river is quiet, the coconut trees stretch in the wind. And somewhere, in the small corners of the editorial office, we are still silently painting Spring with light and color on each page of the newspaper.
Readers may never know our names. But when they open the Spring newspaper, when they linger longer on a beautiful page, an eye-catching photo, a gentle layout, for us, that is enough. Enough to feel that we are contributing a little bit of Spring to our homeland, in a quiet yet sweet way like a Ben Tre coconut in the December sky.
Working on the Spring newspaper sometimes means sleepless nights at the computer desk, the newsroom lights are brighter than anywhere else, but strangely, no one feels tired. Because everyone knows that ahead are the readers waiting. Whether it is the border guard in Thanh Phu, the teacher in Ba Tri, or the people in the Cho Lach garden area, those who love Dong Khoi Newspaper are like close relatives every time Spring comes.
The laughter was loud when a page of the newspaper was completed, and then, when the yellow street lights of the late night faded, I clearly saw the pride on each face. The pride of those who preserve the breath of Spring, not with apricot branches or firecrackers, but with each line of text, each color block on the pages of the beloved newspaper.
At Dong Khoi Newspaper, each Spring newspaper season is a memory. Each person has a position, a separate corner, but shares the same beat: eager, responsible and full of love. The Spring newspaper is not only the most beautiful publication of the year, but also a New Year gift sent to readers with all the quintessence of the profession, imbued with the soul of the countryside, the soul of Ben Tre land. For us, it is also a hyphen between journalists and readers with all faith, love and hope. Each line of words not only reflects, but also sows seeds, paints an optimistic Spring full of humanity.
