Lao Cai invests in building 18 eco-tourism and resort spots

Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has just approved investment in the construction of 18 planned eco-tourism and resort sites on an area of ​​nearly 49,000 hectares in localities, with a total investment capital of over VND2,843 billion.

The People's Committee of Lao Cai province has approved the Project on Ecotourism , Resorts and Entertainment of the Sa Pa Town Protection Forest Management Board, Lao Cai City Protection Forest Management Board, and Hoang Lien Van Ban Nature Reserve for the period 2022-2030; including 18 ecotourism and resort sites planned on an area of ​​nearly 49,000 hectares in localities, with a total investment of over VND 2,843 billion.

The project aims to promote the functions and multi-use values ​​of upstream protection forests and the values ​​of natural landscapes, biodiversity, and cultural identity of local people to attract investment and develop tourism; promote economic development and create sustainable revenue for forest management, protection, development, and biodiversity conservation in localities.

In Sa Pa, the project is being implemented on an area of ​​nearly 16,000 hectares, managed by the Sa Pa Town Forest Protection Management Board with the goal of attracting at least 5 investors to lease the forest environment.

Sa Pa has 9 planned ecological and resort areas to attract investment and develop tourism, including: Doi Thong, Doi Ly, Suoi De, Suoi Ho, Thac Bac, Doi Chay, Ham Rong Mountain, Muong Hoa, Ngu Chi Son with the goal of welcoming an average of 50,000-100,000 visitors/year. The rate of visitors staying overnight accounts for more than 28%, revenue from tourism activities is expected to reach 780 billion VND, creating regular jobs for about 800 workers.

Regarding the market, the project maintains traditional international visitors from Western Europe and Australia; continues to expand Northeast Asian and ASEAN markets; develops experimental new markets in North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, etc. For the domestic market, Sa Pa prioritizes developing key tourism markets such as Hanoi , the provinces of the Red River Delta and the Northeast Coast, the Northern Midlands and Mountains; expands the market from major customer distribution centers in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue.

With the goal of building Hoang Lien Van Ban Nature Reserve into an attractive, professional, and branded eco-tourism destination, Van Ban district has 3 planned eco-tourism and resort destinations: Khau Co Pass eco-tourism and resort destination, Sinh Cha Pao and Nam Kang Ho Tao peak on an area of ​​24,718 hectares managed by the Hoang Lien Van Ban Nature Reserve Management Board and the entire buffer zone of the reserve in 10 communes: Nam Xe, Nam Xay, Minh Luong, Duong Quy, Tham Duong, Nam Chay, Nam Tha, Khanh Yen Ha, Khanh Yen Trung, Liem Phu. The project aims for the above tourist destinations of Van Ban to attract at least 10,000 visitors/year; the rate of overnight visitors accounts for more than 30%; the total revenue from annual eco-tourism activities is estimated at 10 billion VND, creating jobs for more than 300 direct and indirect workers.

Lao Cai City has 6 eco-tourism, resort and entertainment destinations planned on the entire area of ​​8,198 hectares of forest and forestry land managed by the Lao Cai City Forest Protection Management Board. These are eco-tourism and entertainment destinations: Nhac Son Hill, Bac Cuong Cultural Park, Dong Pho Moi, Dong 400 Van Hoa, Nam Ria Waterfall and Ta Phoi with the goal of attracting about 10,000 tourists annually.

Total revenue from ecotourism and related activities reached about 6 billion VND; creating regular jobs for over 250 local workers and over 1,800 indirect workers. The main types of tourism planned at the above 18 locations include: Ecotourism, resort-healthcare; adventure sports tourism; community tourism associated with local cultural identity; scientific research-nature exploration tourism...; ensuring compliance with regulations on environmental protection and nature conservation; tourism environment, security and safety at tourist destinations are controlled.

Lao Cai continues to affirm its strong attraction on the tourism map when welcoming more than 4 million visitors in 4 months of the year; total revenue from tourists reached more than 13,600 billion VND, an increase of 52% over the same period in 2024.

The planning and construction of 18 eco-tourism resorts by 2030 shows that the potential for developing various types of tourism in Lao Cai is still very diverse, rich, and has a lot of potential, which needs to be exploited reasonably, contributing to the development of the local economy and society./.
