Laos affirms that friendly countries have made important contributions to 50 years of development.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his deep gratitude for the valuable and effective support from the international community, which has helped Laos overcome difficulties and challenges.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025), on the morning of November 30, at the Presidential Palace in Vientiane, the Lao Party, State, Government and National Assembly solemnly held a meeting with representatives of international organizations and foreign diplomatic agencies in Laos.

Attending the event were General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith; Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone; Chairman of the National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane; representatives of international organizations and diplomatic agencies in Laos. Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam and his wife attended the event.

On this occasion, Malaysian Ambassador to Laos Edi Irwan Bin Mahmud, on behalf of Ambassadors and representatives of international organizations in Laos, sent his warmest congratulations to the Party, State, Government , National Assembly and people of Laos on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of National Day as well as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

He emphasized that over the past seven decades, the Lao People's Revolutionary Party has led the people with devotion and steadfastness, bringing the country through difficulties and gradually moving towards peace, stability and development.

Ambassador Bin Mahmud expressed his appreciation for the comprehensive achievements that the Lao People's Democratic Republic has achieved in recent times, especially its successes during its tenure as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), thereby demonstrating Laos' diplomatic capacity, sense of responsibility and commitment in strengthening ASEAN's central role, promoting peace, stability and cooperation in the region.

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith emphasized that over the past five decades, Laos has undergone a development journey with many great innovations.

From a country devastated by war, economically backward and facing numerous difficulties, under the leadership of President Kaysone Phomvihane and a principled reform policy, Laos has achieved many proud achievements in all fields: People's lives have been constantly improved, many important infrastructure projects have been built, creating a foundation for stable and sustainable development.

Besides those achievements, Laos also faces many challenges, requiring high political determination and solidarity of the entire people to achieve the goal of developing the country into a prosperous, democratic, fair, civilized society, with prosperous and happy people.

General Secretary-President Thongloun Sisoulith added that in recent times, the regional and world situation has had many complex and unpredictable developments, affecting many countries, including Laos.

In that context, the Lao Government has focused on effectively solving the country's problems, promoting existing strengths, adjusting policies and laws, and streamlining the apparatus from the central to local levels, and strengthening cooperation with countries in the region and internationally.

Notably, Laos has become a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (also known as the Hanoi Convention) at the signing ceremony held in Hanoi last October.

At the same time, Laos continues to upgrade its infrastructure in line with its development vision. From a landlocked country, Laos is gradually becoming a regionally connected country via road, waterway and air.

The implementation of the 9th five-year socio-economic development plan also achieved many positive results, helping to maintain political stability, social order and an average economic growth rate of about 4.8%.

Lao leaders affirmed that the achievements have important contributions from friendly countries and international organizations.

On behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed deep gratitude for the valuable and effective support from the international community over the past time, contributing to helping Laos overcome difficulties and challenges.

Immediately after the speech, the Lao high-ranking leaders and delegates raised their glasses to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, sending best wishes to the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and all Lao people to continue to achieve many achievements in the coming time./.
