Ho Chi Minh City Police is the cradle that nurtured Le Huynh Duc to become a top player of Vietnamese football. On his return, this former striker is expected to steer the Ho Chi Minh City Police ship to glory.
Be the best, be the top
Not being able to set a historical milestone like striker Le Cong Vinh to bring the Southeast Asian gold cup (AFF Cup 2008) to Vietnamese football for the first time, not having an admirable collection of achievements like Nguyen Tien Linh with 2 AFF Cup championships, 2 SEA Games gold medals..., the best achievement of former striker Le Huynh Duc in the national team is only the runner-up position in AFF Cup, silver medal in SEA Games. But when mentioning the generations of good players of Vietnamese football over the past 30 years, Le Huynh Duc is considered to be in the group of top stars.
In other words, calling this former striker a “monument of Vietnamese football” is not too much of an exaggeration. Although he did not bring the Vietnamese team to the peak of his career, the results that exceeded expectations in the context of reintegrating into international football are worthy of appreciation for the contributions of Le Huynh Duc (and his teammates).
Because it is considered the foundation for the Vietnamese team as well as future generations of players to take off to the pinnacle of glory.
During his football career, Le Huynh Duc won the Vietnam Golden Ball 3 times, received the National Top Scorer award 2 times, was awarded the Labor Medal... and was a Vietnamese player who went abroad (China) to play. He was also the highest-paid domestic player in the 2000s with a monthly salary of up to 25 million VND as he himself revealed. In the hearts of the audience, when talking about striker Le Huynh Duc, no football lover does not feel unfamiliar.

The cradle that brought Le Huynh Duc into the “house of Vietnamese football legends” was the Ho Chi Minh City Police team. Along with many excellent teammates such as Liem Thanh, Minh Chien, Chi Bao… striker Le Huynh Duc left a strong impression in the role of a “penalty box killer”. Good height (1.78 meters), abundant physical strength, skillful finishing skills with both head and foot… Le Huynh Duc is truly a fear for any defense.
According to unofficial statistics, this striker has scored 60 goals in 86 matches and brought 1 championship to Ho Chi Minh City Police.
Give a big trust
When Vietnamese football began to develop professionally (V.League), the Ho Chi Minh City Police team transferred to Dong A Bank to temporarily and officially close a famous football team in the early 2000s, scandals also began to befall this former striker. Le Huynh Duc was named as the leader of the "Black Power" group that manipulated the club's dressing room.
In a few rare times when he met with the press at that time, he sadly shared that he was “severely offended”. Perhaps, that accusation, which was all over the newspapers at that time, was one of the reasons that created a rather large gap between this former player and the media until later. As for the Hue-born player himself, after those scandals, he left Ho Chi Minh City football to join Da Nang in 2004.
Le Huynh Duc's football career in Da Nang continued to go on until he was appointed to replace Mr. Phan Thanh Hung after the first 3 bad matches in V.League 2008. Coach Le Huynh Duc's real mark when leading the team on the banks of the Han River was the double championship of V.League and National Cup in the 2009 season.

Young in both age and experience, the famous player born in 1972 made history when he became the youngest coach to win the championship at the age of 37, which is truly admirable. Coach Le Huynh Duc's "iron discipline" policy is considered the factor that brought a team of many "individual players" of Da Nang into a unified cycle, so thatSHB Da Nang won the V.League 2012 once again. This is an achievement that no coach has been able to create for the team on the banks of the Han River, even up to this point.
Having been with the team for a long time and made a big name for himself in the Vietnamese football environment, it is understandable that Coach Le Huynh Duc was welcomed back to the Ho Chi Minh City Police team when he took over from Ho Chi Minh City Club. His mark on the coaching bench with titles in the Da Nang shirt is another sign that the police team has full confidence in this famous player.
Of course, life is full of ups and downs like a river, sometimes calm, sometimes surging. Coach Le Huynh Duc is not out of the flow of life when after the successes in Da Nang, his coaching career also had significant lulls. Above all, the two ups and downs with the team on the banks of the Han River (2008-2017, 2018-2021) and the parting in Binh Duong (2024/25) will be valuable experiences for Coach Le Huynh Duc when he returns to his "old home" Ho Chi Minh City Police to continue the past tradition.
That journey began with the historic match between Ho Chi Minh City Police and Hanoi in round 1 of V.league 2025/26 on the evening of August 16 at Thong Nhat Stadium, once familiar to the police team as well as Mr. Le Huynh Duc.
