On the morning of January 29, the first day of the Lunar New Year, all officers, soldiers and people on the island were present from dawn to prepare for the spring flag-raising ceremony to welcome the new year.
The weather on the first day of the year is cool, dry, about 20-25 degrees Celsius.
Before the sovereignty milestone and the national flag, each officer, soldier, and every citizen on the remote island began to form ranks, salute the flag, and sing the national anthem at the command of the commander.
Although it has become a tradition, the flag-raising ceremony and the first military parade to welcome the new year still make everyone look forward to it and be excited.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huy Phung - deputy political commissar of Truong Sa island, the flag-raising ceremony to welcome the New Year is always emotional and special.
The image of the red flag with yellow star fluttering in the blue sky, in the middle of the vast ocean represents the determination to overcome all difficulties and challenges of cadres, soldiers and people in building and protecting the sovereignty of the nation.

"The flag-raising ceremony and the annual military parade aim to foster pride, patriotism and love for the country in every officer, soldier and citizen, and once again affirm the spirit of solidarity and the will to overcome all difficulties in the new year," said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huy Phung.

Previously, units of Brigade 146, Naval Region 4 went to Truong Sa archipelago to organize many activities such as sports competitions, folk games, banh chung wrapping contests... The activities both trained health to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland, and promoted the spirit of solidarity and attachment between officers, soldiers and people at the forefront.
On the islands, the forces maintain combat readiness and organize patrols, guarding, operations, rescue, and support for fishermen to ensure they are not passive or surprised in any situation, and to keep their guns firmly in hand to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
