Go to Nam Pung to see people raising specialty crabs
With the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, the people of the highlands of the old Nam Pung commune (now Muong Hum commune) are continuing to turn new agricultural ideas into opportunities to get rich locally. After success with cold-water fish farming and temperate fruit tree planting, the people here are experimenting with the model of raising Shanghai hairy crabs - a high-class seafood that is bringing high income to farmers in some northern provinces and cities.

Crab ponds are converted from fish ponds, suitable for highland terrain conditions. After removing all impurities, grow algae to create an environment for raising crabs.
People here have consulted the experience of successful farming areas such as Hai Phong and Bac Ninh, and have been instructed by agricultural engineers to adjust the care and feeding process to suit the cold water source. After several months of stocking, hairy crabs have begun to show adaptation to the water source and farming environment in Nam Pung. This crab breed is easily distinguished from other crab breeds by its round shell, short body, and soft, smooth hair surrounding its claws.
Cold weather and clean water are ideal environments for crabs to accumulate nutrients. The average time to raise hairy crabs is about 8 months, when they reach a weight of 200g - 300g they can be sold. Commercial hairy crabs have an average price of 550,000 VND/kg - 750,000 VND/kg. Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Hum commune, said that with high economic value, if this model is successfully tested, the locality will research and replicate it, contributing to diversifying agricultural products and increasing people's income.
