Opportunities from connection

The Nong Van Canh durian cooperative was established with the goal of creating a closed agricultural production network, from material supply, production to product consumption. The cooperative not only focuses on durian but also expands to avocado trees, with encouraging results. "Joining the cooperative, I learned a lot of experience in plant care techniques from other members. At the same time, the association helps us reduce input costs and have stable output for products" - Mr. Mong Van Huong, a member of the cooperative shared.

VietGAP certification and agricultural product export

With 29.9 hectares of durian that have been granted a growing area code according to VietGAP standards and 11.4 hectares of avocados that have been certified with 3-star OCOP, the Nong Van Canh Durian Cooperative is implementing an organic production process, meeting the strict requirements of domestic and foreign markets. Durian products have been exported to the Chinese market, while the cooperative's fresh avocados are being consumed in domestic supermarkets and exported to international markets.

Mr. Nong Thanh Tung - one of the members who joined the cooperative since its establishment said: "We apply VietGAP process in production to ensure product quality. This not only helps increase the value of agricultural products but also opens up export opportunities for our products."

Close connection, sustainable efficiency

To ensure stable output for the products, the cooperative has signed a long-term contract with Truong Thinh Phat Company - a major partner in the field of fruit processing and export located in Duc Lieu commune, Bu Dang district. Members of the cooperative are also provided with agricultural materials such as microbial fertilizers and pesticides at preferential prices thanks to close links with reputable suppliers.

Mr. Tran Van Dao, a member of the cooperative, said: "When joining the cooperative, I enjoy many benefits, from buying cheap materials to purchasing products. This helps reduce risks in production and ensures product output."

In 2024, Nong Van Canh Durian Cooperative achieved impressive results: durian output reached 230 tons with a value of up to 18 billion 400 million VND; avocado output reached 80 tons, earning about 1 billion 200 million VND.

Mr. Nong Van Canh and members of the group share and exchange experiences in growing and caring for durian.

It is forecasted that in 2025, the cooperative will continue to maintain this growth rate. In particular, durian output can reach 350 to 500 tons, while avocado output is expected to be 130 tons. The cooperative is also accelerating the completion of cooperative establishment procedures to expand the scale and increase the value of agricultural products for members. With a solid foundation, Mr. Canh said that the cooperative is aiming to establish a cooperative to improve its operations, diversify products, increase income for members and expand market access opportunities.

Spread, increase agricultural product value, sustainable development

What is special and noteworthy is that all 16 members of the cooperative are ethnic minorities. The active participation of the people has contributed to changing their thinking and working methods, improving their lives and uniting the community. Mr. Nong Van Thao - a prestigious person in the locality commented: "Since the cooperative was established, the people's lives have changed positively. Previously, their income was just enough to live on, but now having a house worth billions is no longer a distant dream."

Mr. Nong Van Canh and members of the cooperative share experiences in caring for avocados and solutions for processing avocado essential oil.

The Nong Van Canh Durian Cooperative model is not only a success story in agricultural production, but also a testament to sustainable economic development in agriculture. By focusing on linking members, applying science and technology and complying with international quality standards, the cooperative is constantly improving product value and improving farmers' lives. The head of the cooperative, Mr. Nong Van Canh, shared: "We always focus on creating the highest value for products, not only to serve the domestic market but also for export. In the future, we will continue to expand the scale and improve product quality to meet the increasing demand of the market". The existing advantage of the cooperative is the solidarity between members in the group; products have been granted growing area codes; OCOP product certificates; meeting VietGAP standards.

After 4 years of establishment and development, despite many difficulties, with what has been done and is being done, the Nong Van Canh Durian Cooperative has not only helped ethnic minorities escape poverty sustainably, but also opened up a methodical and effective direction, creating a solid foundation to go far on the journey of integration into the modern agricultural economy. With close coordination between members, combined with the application of scientific and technical advances and compliance with international quality standards, the cooperative has also created sustainable values for Binh Phuoc agricultural products, helping farmers have a stable and prosperous future. The immediate and long-term goal that the members of the group are realizing is to deeply process the main products of frozen durian and avocado oil. When the cooperative has OCOP product certification, VietGAP, and growing area codes, access to loan sources also needs to be interested in and facilitated by authorities, sectors, and banks, and not necessarily tied down or requiring collateral as it has been for a long time. Removing these barriers and difficulties, the Nong Van Canh Durian Cooperative will have more potential and conditions to develop, expand production and business scale, build cooperatives, and in the future become a model cooperative in chain linkage in agricultural production.
