Liverpool spend money to buy striker again

Semenyo - with his brilliant form since the beginning of the season - is facing a great opportunity to step onto a bigger stage.

According to Football London, "The Kop" officially submitted an initial offer worth around £65 million for the Ghanaian star. Semenyo has been one of the most impressive players in the Premier League since the start of the 2025/26 season with explosive form. So far, he has scored 6 goals and assisted 3 times after only 10 Premier League matches, helping Bournemouth climb to 5th place in the rankings, only 7 points behind the top team Arsenal.

This impressive performance has not only attracted attention from Liverpool but also from other big clubs such as Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, who had offers of up to £50 million rejected last summer.

The interesting point in this deal is the special clause in Semenyo's contract. Bournemouth will only agree to release the player if the "special clause for English clubs" is met.

While specific details have not been revealed, sources say it could be a release clause that triggers in the summer of 2026, with a fee of around £80m, significantly lower than Bournemouth's valuation of over £100m.

However, Liverpool want to buy the player earlier, in January. The advantage for them is that the club's Sports Director Richard Hughes is the one who brought Semenyo from Bristol City to Bournemouth for only 10.5 million pounds two years ago.

Semenyo himself also wants to move to Anfield, where he can gradually replace the role of Mohamed Salah, who is going through a period of decline. For Liverpool, after a series of consecutive unstable matches, recruiting Semenyo could be the "medicine" needed to strengthen their attack and maintain the championship race.
