"The market still retains its traditional features as a place for cultural exchange and trading of people from the smallest to the largest. The smallest things are vegetables and fruits of the people, the big things are dogs and cats, and pigs, chickens, and buffaloes are all brought to the market to sell," Mr. Luyen confided.

The market is also a place for local people to exchange culture and chat after a week away from the market.

According to Mr. Hieu, before he bought directly from people and resold to customers, he could make a profit of several hundred thousand for each dog, but since selling online, he only takes a commission of about 100,000 - 200,000 VND/order.

For Ms. Charlise, a French tourist, Bac Ha market was one of the stops on her first trip to Vietnam.

"I was very impressed with this market, it has a strong indigenous cultural color, the people are very friendly and I really like the colors of their traditional costumes," Charlise shared.
